The Weekender: The Cake Show, Burlesque’s Most Wanted and seven other weekend events

1. GREEN LIVING SHOW
Demonstrations, workshops and speakers cover everything eco-warriors need to know about greening their lives. And we do mean everything: transportation, fashion, tourism, food, wine, health and education are all covered. 2. THE CAKE SHOW 2010
A must-attend for sweet-toothed Torontonians, this afternoon-long event is hosted by the Bonnie Gordon School and features beautiful creations by past and present students. 3. DANCEWORKS PRESENTS CIE. LA OTRA ORILLA
The Montreal-based flamenco troupe Cie. La Otra Orilla spices things up at Harbourfront this weekend with two performances of EL12, a piece that contemporizes the traditional Andalusian dance and explores the style’s distinctive 12-beat rhythm. 4. BURLESQUE’S MOST WANTED
Glamour Puss Burlesque’s newest show is a 1920s-themed extravaganza that sees the ladies get into a little trouble with the law. Jazz hands and burlesque courtesy of a few “female felons, girlie gangsters and femmes fatales” are the order of the day, with special appearances by fire artist Kitty Kerosene and comedy duo Bain and Bernard. 5. TORONTO SPRING SPRINT 2010
The season of running, walking and cycling for charity kicks off with this weekend’s Spring Sprint. Benefiting the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, this five-kilometre walk-run raises money for research and treatment. Sporty types and their cheering sections will also enjoy the event’s silent auction, live entertainment and an activity area for the kids. April 24. Minimum donation $40. 6. TORONTO VINTAGE COSTUME JEWELLERY CLUB SHOW AND SALE (FREE!)
A must-attend for collectors and fashionistas on a budget, this show and sale features the collections of more than 20 dealers and collectors who have jewellery, vintage handbags and other vanity items on offer. 7. FAT: TORONTO ALTERNATIVE ARTS AND FASHION WEEK
Now five years old, FAT is the edgy little sister to last month’s LG Fashion Week. Check out the runway shows (this year, there are upwards of 50), live music, art installations and exhibits, screenings and parties before it all wraps up this weekend. 8. A YOUNG PERSON’S GUIDE TO THE ORCHESTRA
TSO musical director Peter Oundjian takes the stage in a slightly different role during this concert, part of the TSO’s kid-friendly Young People’s Concerts series. He’ll leave his baton at home (Alain Trudel will conduct this Benjamin Britten opus in his place) and play narrator instead. April 24. $18.25–$28.50. 9. REMEMBERING DON WATT (FREE!)
OCAD alum Don Watt, the man behind several well-known brands, including Walmart, Loblaws, Metro and Home Depot, passed away suddenly late last year. This OCAD-hosted exhibition featuring work that spans Watt’s decades-long career is part retrospective, part memorial. April 22 to 25. OCAD, The Great Hall, 100 McCaul St., ocad.ca.
