Sarah Polley’s second full-length feature debuted last night at Roy Thomson Hall to a packed house of adoring fans. Present at the premiere were cast members Luke Kirby (he plays the charmingly seductive neighbour of Michelle Williams, sadly missing last night), Seth Rogen (who spent a long time with fans on the red carpet), Sarah Silverman and a very pregnant Jennifer Podemski. On stage before the show, Polley reminisced about Podemski’s starring in her first short film (directed at age 20, three tender years after Road to Avonlea), beamed as longtime friend Kirby took the stage and introduced Rogen as her new favourite dramatic actor. Admitting to stage fright while introducing the film, Polley said Silverman gave her some choice words of advice: “Don’t blow it.” She didn’t. Instead, Polley was both humble and proud as she discussed Take This Waltz, expressing gratitude to all those involved in the production. In a sweet moment, the 32-year-old director asked all the cast and crew members in attendance to stand up as the crowd burst into applause. See photos of everything, after the jump.
