TIFF PHOTO GALLERY: David Suzuki Foundation gala with Ed Begley Jr. and Russell Peters

Friday’s sold-out, thousand-dollar-per-head charity fundraiser for the David Suzuki Foundation brought out an environmentalist mix of athletes and actors to the green carpet on the second floor of the Four Seasons.

We got to exchange jabs with the night’s co-host Russell Peters—who was in town for just one night—and listen to Ed Begley Jr. go on about collecting rainwater. Susur Lee was also on hand, as he was one of the event’s chefs.

Below, our photo gallery of the event.

  1. I’m all for saving the environment, so much so, that my carbon footprint’s about a baby-sized 1. I last flew over a year ago, and before that, 11 years before that.

I’m just a little uncomfortable with the “do as I say, not as I do” gurus in our midst, who fly all over the world, stay at first-class hotels, use a lot more of the planet’s resources than the average Dick and Jane, but who tell the rest of us to put the brakes on our consumption of the world’s resources.

Mr. Suzuki owns a number of houses, as does Al Gore, while most of us are fortunate to own just one domicile. I rent. Mr. Suzuki would have a lot more credibility if he practised what he preaches.
