TIFF fashion poll: Nelly Furtado, Olivia Newton-John, Erin Karpluk and Allie MacDonald

TIFF fashion poll: Nelly Furtado, Olivia Newton-John, Erin Karpluk and Allie MacDonald

The red carpets were laid in Toronto yesterday for TIFF’s opening galas, including the world premiere of Score: A Hockey Musical and a big bash at the Liberty Grand. Despite the festivities, we weren’t wowed by celebrity fashion choices. In our first daily TIFF fashion poll, we’ll let you decide who you think ruled the red carpet last night. The contenders:

Erin Karpluk: Our Being Erica is being kinda boring in this dress that we’re pretty sure we wore to a Grade 9 semi. Nice colour, though.
Olivia Newton-John: What can we say? ONJ’s dress by the normally reliable Vera Wang is a bigger disaster than Xanadu: The Musical.
Allie MacDonald: In a clearly Canadian fashion moment, the star of TIFF’s opening night gala selection Score: A Hockey Musical sports a Greta Constantine frock and a million-dollar Ontario diamond necklace from Birks. Does being underwhelmed make us unpatriotic?
Nelly Furtado: Whoa nooooo, Nelly! The always experimental songbird, who wore Philip Lim for the premiere of Score, has us anticipating her upcoming single, “I’m Like a Burlap Bag.”
