Telus’s shimmery new building at 25 York Street is officially part of the Path system, a conduit for harried nine-to-fivers, but Michael Awad has turned it into a place to dwell. His fantastically distorted panorama of Union Station–bound commuters en pointe, their feet winnowed down and their numbers swelled by a one-minute exposure, records a complicated daily ballet mimicked by the actual office workers coursing through the Telus lobby. Standing under the accompanying pixel matrix, a collaboration with the multimedia artist David Rokeby, is like being inside a gigantic shifting Lite-Brite. Together, the two pieces elegantly reduce time to nothing by speed and movement.
