EBay is filled with many hidden treasures, and today Twitter uncovered something political: a call from one bumper sticker maker to put an end to the public financing of the CBC (or, as the Sun puts it, the state broadcaster) with the sale of a pro-privatization bumper sticker ($8.99 + $2.45 shipping). It’s being touted as a “great stocking stuffer,” so if you know any capitalist motorists who hate Being Erica, Heather Hiscox and Nancy Wilson that much, this would make the perfect present.

this is the most amazing bumper sticker i have ever seen.
November 24, 2011 at 12:03 pm | by AEthanks! I bought one for my dad — he absolutely REFUSES to watch the CBC, claiming it’s the devil’s ‘communist’ network, or something like that.

November 24, 2011 at 9:57 pm | by Rumpled Stilts's KinThe CBC absolutely sucks. Why are we paying for a 24-hour Liberal/NDP campaign channel? If CBC is so good, then let the 4% of Canada that actually watches it pay for it. It will have no trouble surviving if it produces quality material.
November 24, 2011 at 11:25 pm | by AgreeCBC DOES have quality programming — it doesn’t pander to just entertainment hounds, which attract the vast majority of advertising dollars. CBC has the freedom and luxury to develop within several cultural industries, while other broadcasters have to show reruns and the same thing everybody else does, just to stay afloat. And let’s not forget the unique mandate of the CBC, to provide Canadian radio and television services in English and French. A few tax dollars are surely worth that.

November 29, 2011 at 9:10 pm | by Glen TateNobody watches the CBC. Here are last week’s ratings:

There’s one — yes, ONE — CBC show in the top-thirty: hockey. Yep; we’re paying a billion bucks for hockey, which any other network can provide for free. And we could use the billion $ for highways or cancer treatments instead.

December 29, 2011 at 1:35 am | by MarkAs a soldier in the Canadian Army I am disgusted at the leftist bias of the CBC. When a former Afghan interpreter claimed(lied) we were abusing prisoners overseas the CBC did its damnedest to dig up evidence and try to slander us. There was no proof and the story slowly went away much to the disappointment of the CBC. When the list of wanted war criminals who were in Canada illegally was made public the CBC didn’t publish one name on the list. I am convinced that the state broacaster’s views are more aligned with Liberal Party/Taliban values than with Canadian values. So as a tax payer why am I expected to fund a network that sympathizes with my enemies? If the CBC has any merit as a broadcaster they should be able to run their network on their own hard work and funding from advertisement just like CTV or Global. Sadly, I doubt any of the useless degree holders who work at CBC know what it’s like to do any hard work. I have no respect for them as a network since over the years they have tried to paint me and my fellow soldiers as murderers and worse. To hell with the CBC. I would rather sit and eat $hit with those who work at Sun News than have steak and lobster with anyone who works at the CBC. Besides, the steak and lobster would be paid for with tax dollars since any leftist working at the CBC would be too cheap to pay for it themselves.
January 5, 2012 at 4:02 pm | by Robert Lit,s time to shut down the CBC. No way on earth we should be FUNDING a liberal slant on the NEWS.Take that billion+$
