The Being Erica BS Detector: Season 3, Episode 7 (bad friend edition)
As far as time travel goes, this week—yet again—didn’t have a lot to offer (it’s kind of hard to time cop when the Back to the Future action is happening in Pioneer Village). Still, we will say that episode 7 was the best of the season by far and has us hoping that maybe, just maybe, BE is en route to its former glory. The storyline in which Brent (a.k.a. Brad) takes Jenny (Erica and Julianne’s new assistant) out on a date to get info on the competition was, as Julianne would say, faboush. And speaking of Jenny, are we the only ones who think Erica was being a bit of a buzz kill?
Her behaviour at Black Creek was very era appropriate (the era being 1854). She stomped around that joint with puritanical conviction, and not helping Jenny with the escaped barnyard animals was, well, downright cowish. Maybe, to offer the obvious answer to Dr. Tom’s question, what Jenny brings to the friendship table is fun. Or, to put it another way, the ability to dislodge the giant pickle from Erica’s you-know-what. Exhibit A: Season 1 when Jenny drags Erica out of that brutal baby shower and they wind up on a karaoke adventure. Who doesn’t want that kind of friend?
Sure, Jenny is culpable, and we’re not even going to try to defend her naïveté regarding Brent’s preposterously suspicious interest in her work life, but we think Erica’s decision to break up with her fancy-free friend is one she’ll live to regret. Because really, there’s only so much fun a girl can have with high-strung Judith.
Did Erica make the right decision? Weigh in below.
Erica was being anal at the beginning, but Jenny’s screw up with Brent/Brad was pretty unforgivable. I am also confused about Brent’s sexuality. Does he know he’s gay?
Erica has always been anal. That’s why she’s in therapy with Dr. Tom! LOL. But anyway, sure Jenny is fun. But she doesn’t seem reliable as a worker, she slacks off anytime she can. Erica ends up doing the work for her. If you’re not being paid to work two jobs why do the work of two?
Let’s see here, take a millisecond to decide this one….did Erica make the right decision on a “friend” who helped get her fired (after a major fire) and then almost destoys her business…hmmmm (millisecond thought)…I call that a survival decision, not being anal. And as for Erica’s fun factor…think Cassidy, stealing car with Kai, parade float dancing and ice sculpture on bar – need I say more? The girl ain’t exactly studying at the Abbey.
“Fun” is your top priority in choosing a friend? Honestly, how dumb are the people who write this blog? Sure, you want someone you have a good time with, but doesn’t having a good time require compataibility? I could never be friends with someone like Jenny. Maybe you think it’s “fun” for someone to go around screeching, getting drunk, bullying people and acting like a whore, but that’s not my idea of a good time. I would have much more in common with someone like Erica who is creative, fun but still classy and pleasant to be around. Erica is not “anal”…just because she doesn’t sleep around like Jenny or jet off with no plans doesn’t make her “anal”. It seems Erica can have plenty of fun with Cassidy, Julianne, Judith, Kai, Adam and her other friends – and even better, none of them try to destroy her life/work or expect her to clean up their mess! You can be fun and have your shit together.
Jenny has always been a bitch. She shows no consideration for anyone. To me these negatives outweigh any “fun” she could bring to the table.
Thanks for a marvelous posting! I genuinely enjoyed reading it, you could be a great author.I will always bookmark your blog and will often come back very soon. I want to encourage you to ultimately continue your great work, have a nice evening!
