Toronto’s collective ego suffered a setback today when Tom Selleck breathed a sigh of relief (to the media) that his new cop show, Blue Bloods, was not going to be filmed in here. Since the show is 212-centric, Selleck figures it’s better shot in the star locale. “No offence, Toronto, but I’ve shot there, and it’s a lovely place to shoot, but it’s different,” he said. Either Toronto is evolving from a NY stand-in or New Yorkers really want another cop show now that Law and Order is over.
• Tom Selleck happy new show isn’t shot in Toronto [CTV]

I guess he wants a city where people actually hate each other.
July 29, 2010 at 5:42 pm | by PhilHe didn’t dis Toronto, he just showed a preference for shooting in New York. I’m a die hard Torontonian but there is a different feel in New York that can’t be replicated.
just stirring a pot that is empty boys.
July 29, 2010 at 7:32 pm | by TorontoPotatoQuit trying to make controversy where there is none. Blue Bloods is about a New York law enforcement family. It should be filmed in NY.
July 29, 2010 at 11:48 pm | by jennHow is this an insult to Toronto? Ever been to N.Y. City? It’s hard to emulate that decaying, raunchiness that’s special to the U.S. He’s right. You can only do so much to produce that and I’m happy we can’t. Keep it south of the border.

July 30, 2010 at 11:01 am | by The_FlashIndeed no, he didn’t diss Toronto.
Another quote: “Look,” he says, “it’s difficult for me to argue that shooting a show about New York won’t be better shot in New York.”
It’s simple as that.
July 30, 2010 at 11:40 am | by AdamI’m a Torontonian and I don’t think he dissed Toronto at all. He simply wants the show filmed in New York for authenticity. Plus, he is an American and probably wants to give jobs to Americans – I don’t fault him for that one bit.
July 31, 2010 at 12:42 pm | by JessicaHe said “no offense”! Lol
August 4, 2010 at 11:08 am | by BrickHaving seen both New York and Toronto, I can understand why he said this.
September 2, 2010 at 1:20 pm | by NameHe’s an actor who is “different”……He can’t act!!
September 6, 2010 at 9:59 am | by RobertaJesus christ, how insecure are you people? Tom Selleck didn’t ‘diss’ Toronto, he just said he’d rather that his New York-set be shot in New York. Anyone who’s spent even 5 minutes in both cities would understand why. They really are different, as desperate as some Torontonians might be to believe otherwise.
I understand that Toronto’s collective insecurity complex stems from the fact that it’s only been a relevant global city for 30 years, after the exodus of scared Anglophones from Montreal, but it’s time to grow a thicker skin. Toronto needs to become secure in itself, and accept that it’s a wonderful, exciting city in its own right, without the need for external validation.
