As the first-ever transgendered contestant at the Miss Universe Canada pageant, Jenna Talackova is getting a lot of attention. The striking blonde was spotted during a media blitz at the Eaton Centre this week, taking in Victoria’s Secret’s wall of lace thongs—the finalists are in town for the big pageant that begins tonight, and were rewarded with a shopping spree. Talackova recently told The Canadian Press, “I’ve set a precedent for a lot of women in my situation, so once I step on that stage, every woman in every other country that doesn’t have the option I have now can fight for it. I feel so blessed with this opportunity.” She’s clearly got a lot of fight in her, but will this be the year for a transgendered Miss Universe Canada? The competition starts tonight at 8 p.m. at the Bluma Appel Theatre. Check out Talackova’s competition in our Miss Universe Canada gallery »

Rachel McAdams competing for MTV’s Best Kiss award against Ryan Gosling
Attention: Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling are both nominated for Best Kiss at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on June 3. McAdams will be up for the award with Channing Tatum for their smooching in The Vow, while the Almighty Goz is up with Emma Stone for their face-merging in Crazy, Stupid, Love. So, it’s almost like a reunion for the steamy Notebook duo, except McAdams will be going home with Michael Sheen. (And Goz will either stop a fight afterward, or hang out with a model.)
The Hunger Games red carpet draws celebrities and hyperventilating teens

Liam Hemsworth signs a few autographs (Image: Christopher Drost)
Yesterday afternoon, at the Scotiabank Theatre, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson and Alexander Ludwig walked the red carpet for the premiere of The Hunger Games. Swarms of teenage girls and boys came with books, illustrated movie guides, cameras, Sharpies and notepads, in hopes that maybe one of the heartthrobs from the film would scrawl a signature, or touch their hand. One young lady was pushed to a space behind the media, and began to hyperventilate and then freak out because she believed the cameras were blocking her right to stand where she should stand. We saw many smiling faces (not hers, obviously), and an enthusiastic Hemsworth, Hutcherson and Ludwig who graciously stood for photos with fans and scribbled as many signatures as they possible could. Check out all of the action from The Hunger Games red carpet »
Daniel Radcliffe—or, more formally, Harry Potter—will be in Toronto this month
Fans of Harry Potter or of a naked Daniel Radcliffe riding a horse will be happy to learn that the boy wizard himself will be in town this month to promote his film The Woman in Black. He’ll be walking the red carpet for a premiere at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on Thursday, January 26 at 6 p.m. Anyone who wants to capture him in a blurry cellphone picture should get there early to avoid a pileup, because, well, it’s Harry Potter.
Year in Review: 2011 was a good year for Biebz, Drizzy, Gadon, McAdams and the Almighty Goz

It has the been the year of abs, boyish haircuts, protesting and Maury Povich–style paternity suits for celebrities we love, like Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling, Sarah Gadon, Drake and Rachel McAdams. In short, it was fun for the whole family (except for those families who were left without Christmas concert tickets because of scalpers). Check out our favourite celebrity moments of 2011 after the jump.

Britney Spears thinks Ryan Gosling is a “wonderful little actor”
Britney Spears is bigger than Jesus, right? (Her fans think so, anyway, and there are many.) In a recent interview with Stylist magazine, Ms. Spears provided a testimonial for Ryan Gosling that was part fawning and part, we assume, a message to the Almighty Goz that she’s the biggest thing to come out of the Mickey Mouse Club:
“Oh, I’m a huge fan; I think he’s amazing. I think he’s a wonderful little actor. He definitely has that ‘something’ on film, on camera, which is really cool. So I’m very happy for him.”
Such nice words from a wonderful little singer.

Sorry, turns out Ryan Gosling isn’t sexy—and people are angry (thanks, People magazine)

Ryan Gosling was robbed, says the Internet (Image: Grover G)
Every year, People magazine picks one sexy man who earns the title (because they’re really hot) of “Sexiest Man Alive,” and for 2011 that person is Bradley Cooper. We were shocked, too—not because he isn’t a handsome man (hey, we watched Alias, Nip/Tuck, The Hangover and—sadly—The A-Team, often saying “wowza”), but because the clear choice for this year’s title seemed to be Ryan Gosling, who is meme-ified (and deified) every hour of every day by droves of fan boys and girls. Perhaps it was too obvious and People magazine decided they wanted to be edgy by not choosing the Almighty Goz, but the Internet is angry, and since Occupy movements are so hot right now, a protest has been scheduled at People headquarters (1271 Avenue Of The Americas, New York) for 1 p.m. today. Click on to read a recent update of the protest that is taking place at People headquarters, and make sure to take our poll after the jump.

Ryan Gosling proves that caring about municipal politics is sexy

Ryan Gosling (Image: TOPoliRyanGosling)
Under the category “memes that won’t die” are Ryan Gosling macros, which up until now have tackled feminist issues and the long-fought debate of which is hotter: a leading Hollywood star or a puppy. It all began with the original Fuck Yeah Ryan Gosling, and now Toronto has its very own Gosling macros with this weekend’s viral Tumblr account: Toronto Poli Wonk Ryan Gosling. The Goz can be seen talking about the necessity of an LRT line because of crowding on the Finch bus (which he would never take), the gentrification of the Ossington strip and many other important subjects. There are maybe 10 so far and, given how these memes work, there will probably be 30 more by day’s end. Because if anyone can get us interested in municipal politics, it is a shirtless Ryan Gosling telling us he wants to snuggle.
VIDEO: The objectification of Ryan Gosling, actor
If you haven’t heard of him, you’re a liar, because Ryan Gosling’s star is rising faster than gas prices, yeast and other things that rise quickly. A video has popped up on Funny or Die, proving what we already knew: he is hot (we figure he could have the flu and we’d still give him a back massage), and even if he wasn’t a talented actor (he is), we may just pay real money to sit and watch him not say a word. To find out if you feel the same way, have a look at the video above.
More and more, the National Ballet of Canada knows its marketing. They have just released a video of two of the company’s principal male dancers—Jiří Jelinek and Piotr Stanczyk—rehearsing a sword fight for an upcoming production of Romeo and Juliet. If this doesn’t put asses in the seats, nothing will. Watch the video »
Ryan Gosling lands cover of GQ Russia, proving he’s still as hot as ever
Read the rest of this entry »
Ryan Gosling is breaking hearts on screen and on the cover of magazines this year: his abs looked practically Photoshopped in Crazy, Stupid, Love and he handled a car like a pro in Drive. Now Gosling has once again landed a sought-after magazine cover, gracing the cover and pages of GQ Russia’s November 2011 issue in photos taken by Mario Testino (which also appeared earlier this year in the U.S. version of the magazine). We’re suckers for Gosling’s piercing stare on both covers of GQ, as well as Testino’s film noir–inspired, semi-surrealist photos. Check out some of our favourite Gosling covers in a gallery after the jump.
Ryan Gosling proves wet willies can be sexy at a screening of the Ides of March
Ryan Gosling’s stock is rising fast, and his acting chops are certainly a big reason his star burns so bright—he has leading roles in Drive and The Ides of March, which were both heralded as successes at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. But the Gos isn’t all business, he’s a heartthrob too (which requires him to just stand, sit, or walk around and look pretty), and since the Internet is full of titillating images, we present to you, by way of Ryan Arnolds, Ryan Gosling giving his heartthrob predecessor George Clooney a wet willy at a New York screening of The Ides of March.
Ryan Gosling just got a little bit hotter after breaking up a real fight in New York City
Canadian actor Ryan Gosling has played a goofball, an accomplice to murder, an addict and a sob-inducing lover. In real life, he breaks up fights that spawn from art thievery on the mean streets of New York City. Cue swooning.
Six things we learned about Ryan Gosling, including that he has a shy bladder
In this month’s Esquire cover story, writer Tom Chiarella followed Ryan Gosling as he travelled around New York, stopping in Brooklyn, Coney Island and Manhattan’s East Village. Gosling collaborated on the cover with photographer Perou, and in the magazine, the pair recreated interpretations of Gosling’s recent dreams involving ghostly apparitions. And that’s not even the most interesting stuff we discovered about Canada’s dreamiest movie star (sorry Ryan Reynolds). Here, six more things we learned about Gosling.
1. He doesn’t talk about Breaker High. Read the rest of this entry »
Though Gosling says “I went through puberty in a theme park,” referring to his time spent as a Mouseketeer at Orlando’s Disney World, both he and Chiarella neglect to mention the show all Canadians under 30 first saw Gosling on: Breaker High. Is there a rider in his contract somewhere that says the subject is verboten or something? Really, why on earth would Gosling be embarrassed of playing Sean Stanley Hanlon, the wannabe ladies’ man with a penchant for silk shirts? The rest, after the jump.
