Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 comes to Toronto this summer, tickets on sale Saturday

Toronto set to become “Dollywood, Ontario” from June to July

Dolly Parton’s big hair and big, um, personality, might not be gracing the streets of Toronto anytime soon, but 9 to 5: The Musical, the Broadway hit with music and lyrics by the surprisingly petite country legend with the infectious voice, will be in town from June 29 to July 10 at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. Based on the 1980 film starring Parton herself, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, the musical tells the story of three employees, tired of their bullying boss, who conspire to take over a corporation. Details about Toronto’s cast and where to get tickets after the jump.

Toronto’s performance has a stacked cast, including Dee Hoty, who has received Tony nominations for roles in Footloose, The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public and The Will Rogers Follies; Mamie Parris, whose previous performances include Ragtime, The Drowsy Chaperone and Legally Blonde, the Musical; and Diana DeGarmo of American Idol fame as Doralee Rhodes. Considering the original Broadway cast boasts Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block and Megan Hilty as members, we’re hoping DeGarmo and company fill the big comedic shoes of these former cast members, and frankly, we’re also a bit surprised that someone from American Idol has some semblance of a career outside of the American Idol LIVE! Tour. Tickets for the Toronto performances go on sale May 7 at 10 a.m. via DanCap online or by phone at 416-644-3665.

  1. It is kind of a dumb statement “we’re also a bit surprised that someone from American Idol has some semblance of a career outside of the American Idol LIVE! ” Suggest you go to http://www.ibdb.com also Imdb.com and do a google of all the things she’s done. Absolutely amazing.
