American Idiot announces open casting call in Toronto

American Idiot makes promises, promises (Image: Marlon E)

At long last, every Torontonian who can sing and dance will have the opportunity to become an American Idiot in the Broadway hit’s Canadian production. The producers of the New York success story—the New York Times calls it “wonderfully raucous,” whatever that means—will be holding an open call for auditions at Roy Thomson Hall on March 26 at 11 a.m.

The producers are looking for male and female rock singers (or “rawk,” in the case of American Idiot, the album) in their early to late 20s to audition with songs of their choosing. Prospective Billie Joes are asked to bring a guitar if they can play one, but for the prima donnas, piano accompaniment will be on offer. Any first-timers new to the cattle call should note that a recent photo is required for anyone auditioning. Although it might seem rock ’n’ roll, we’d avoid settling for a glamour shot.
