Spectacular! The Michael Jackson circus is coming to town

It was only a matter of time before our favourite recently deceased spectacle got together with our favourite French-Canadian spectacle and said, hey, let’s make an even more spectacular spectacle! No, it’s not a Patrick Swayze–Céline Dion YouTube mash-up; it’s the Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour, touching down in Toronto next October 21.

The $57-million show will feature more than 60 artists in a “celebration of dance and spectacle.” Cirque says it will reinvent its signature style for this show, merging it with “rock ‘n’ roll/pop spectacle and touring it.” Spectacle, spectacle, spectacle.

The show will be directed by Jamie King, who has worked with such spectacle freaks as Madonna, Prince, Britney Spears and Rihanna. “We do it big, because Michael would have done it large, so we’re following that design, if you will,” King said. The stage will feature massive video screens projecting images of Jackson singing and dancing, while Cirque members do their thing in the foreground.

Immortal’s soundtrack will follow the formula created for Cirque’s Beatles and Elvis tribute shows, taking Jackson’s original tracks and giving them the remix and mash-up treatment. King says the theme of the show will be Neverland: “We get to go inside Michael’s head…inside this place of beauty and serenity and peace and learn all the secrets that are Michael—his loves, things that he believed in—and take this fantastic journey together. It really is based on things we all really know of Michael.” Well, maybe not all of the things.

  3. This is a great tribute to the King of Pop. If you would write something, I wish you’d write it with respect. Did it really have to be written like this?

  4. You ask- Whats up with this article? oh, its just the usual bias coming out clear and strong. Rather than write an uplifting and positive piece about this gentle man, this and other authors continue with their blatant innuendoes. This Circue de Soleil will be a hit as the love of Mj and his body of work is loved by millions across the globe. His true legacy as the most charitable philanthropist is documented in the Guiness Record book as well as his musical achievements. It doesn’t matter how these lazy cut and paste journalists write these types of articles, his truth will prevail. The time has come for all of his supporters to react and set the story straight.

Google VindicateMJ .. mjtruthnow… Voices of Education, Michael Jackson.

  5. The media disgust me with their insinuations and overall negative feel of their articles. If journalist and publishers can’t show some type of RESPECT when writing about such an extraordinary person as MJ, then we would be most pleased if nothing at all was written!!

  6. I have been a Michael Jackson fan my whole life and have seen many disgusting and disrepectful article written about a man who spent his whole life trying to teach people about love and respect for the Earth and his man.If all you can do is disrespect Mr. Michael Jackson, even now in his death,I ask that you stop writing about him period

  7. Wow, how many people can you defame in one short article?
Rihanna, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna are freaks? I’m not sure why this article was written in this negative tone? The media these days is way out there, saying whatever they please with little thought.
    It’s time for a change.

  8. I’ve followed Michael Jackson’s career for most of my life, and the thing that has struck me most is how biased the media has been against him. Why? Seems to me that he not only was a distinguished and accomplished artist but, from what I’ve heard from people who actually knew him, he was kind, polite, warm, generous and caring to a fault. While uncompassionate writers such as Lia Granger continue to write hit pieces to disparage him in death as they did in life, he is still universally beloved. Hmmm…someone’s out of step and I think it’s the media. Why doesn’t the media just give up trying to ruin this man? He’s never going to not have millions of people who love and appreciate him, so all the media does is make itself look bad. They march in lock step to ruin him but they just can’t. Ha ha ha…I guess the joke’s STILL on the media. The man is dead but continues to spin his special brand of wonder and delight. Oh, and Lia Granger? Nobody but nobody cares what you think.

  9. I couldn’t agree more with the earlier comments regarding the way the media continues to treat MJ. Why ddo we put up with this childish trash? Michael Jackson railed against the garbage that was printed about him and implored his fans not to buy the tabloids and other papers and magazines that were ‘full of lies’ and ‘made-up stories’. It only surprises me that MJ survived as long as he did, given he had to overcome so much. Just shows how strong he was. He was an honourable man who only ever wanted to spread love and peace. I don’t know who Lia Granger is, but he/she doesn’t impress me in the least, and neither does T.O. Life for publishing such crappy articles.

  10. What a great idea to get this production created for Jackson fans as well as die hard theater goers. This is definitely not a shock though as Cirque has started putting together unique dance fusion styles on stage for quite some time now including hip hop, stunts, and circus acts. http://torontotoursim-wordonthestreet.blogspot.com/

This is really cool and I’m glad they have decided to work with different styles of dance to put on an amazing show for everyone to enjoy!
