Brassaii’s bison burger
Furnished with black lacquered tables and barnwood accents, Brassaii’s King West dining room is an airy setting for executive chef Bruce Woods’s Mediterranean-inspired menu. The front-facing patio is being primped for spring, and in the spirit of the (slightly) warmer weather and the advent of barbecue season, we opt for the eight-ounce bison burger. Grilled to a perfect medium, the hand-packed patty proves that leaner meat doesn’t have to be any less flavourful. Sautéed portobello mushrooms add another hearty layer, with sharp, gooey cheddar and cabernet-soaked onions seeping into the bun. A bowl of yukon gold fries is a salty, crispy complement to the tender burger.
The cost: $15.50, after tax and tip
The time: A brisk 45 minutes
