Get free stuff—it’s Earth Day

Today Starbucks is giving free coffee to customers who bring in their own travel mugs—not because McDonald’s is giving away free coffee for the next two weeks or anything. And for those milling about Yonge-Dundas Square, more than 3,000 Brita water filters will be handed out throughout the afternoon.

  1. I was wondering who would take advantage of this day for economic gain. Ah, Brita, Brita, Brita you’ve done it again with your old technology, and non-recyclable filter system. Yay, so how many of you got one?

It’s more like get-free-junk-that-will-sit-in-a-landfill-for-eons-once-it’s-deemed-useless day. Brita did the same thing for Earth Hour. It would be a much more progressive hydration enabler if Brita would find a way to make the billions of filters they give out (or people buy) biodegradable over time, at least. They could secure their consumer base ensuring that the filers actually have to be changed, to avoid corn and who-knows-what-else flavoured water (oh yes, and if you’re one to care about the lead in your water).
