Covert deep dish pizza parlour has cover blown on opening day

The city has a new underground restaurant: Parlour Deep Dish Pizza, whose pies can only ordered through a minimalist website. Its owner and location have been kept strictly secret—or at least that was the idea, until their delivery company blew it, as Corey Mintz revealed in yesterday’s Toronto Star. When the service launched on Thursday, orderit.ca’s listing revealed the parlour’s location: 38 Wellington Street East., the site of Trevor Kitchen and Bar (the address has since been taken down, but Google’s cache still shows the original flub). Chefs Trevor Wilkinson and Jesse Vallins apparently spent a year developing the covert service, intending to gauge its success before opening a full restaurant. “I blew it before it even happened,” Wilkinson told the Toronto Star. “I’m raging right now.” Still, we don’t feel too bad for the guy. Deep-dish pizza is notoriously hard to get in the GTA, especially since Vaughan’s Chicago Pizza Kitchen closed. If the lamentations on Chowhound are any indication, Wilkinson will get plenty of business. Read the entire story [Toronto Star] »

  1. Looking forward to trying out this pie – Toronto needs deep dish – may I suggest Spinach, Mozzarella and Tomato like in Chicago.

  2. Don’t bother – I ordered one of these last night, excited by the prospect of deep dish in Toronto, and it is nothing like Chicago pie.

I had the classic sausage pie and it was bland, bland, bland.

Had I realized it was from Trevor’s kitchen before I ordered, I wouldn’t have ordered at all. I saw the address after the fact and put 2 and 2 together, hoping it would still be passable, but no dice. Back to the drawing board, boys.

The fried artichokes are alright though.

  3. I dissagree with the last post! I ordered tonight and the pizza was amazing! My wife is originally from Chicago so we visit often – this was just like the classic places there. VERY tasty! We’ll be ordering often!

  4. Likewise, was so excited to order this, but the pizza (vegetarian for me) was just okay. Needs to be saucier, I think.

Fried artichokes were pretty good though, I think the being placed hot in a little box created condensation that softened the crispy crust.

  5. I ordered a “Classic” last night and it was great, tons of toppings. Since you can only order through orderit.ca it is a little pricey however it is a filling pizza. Great classic deep dish.
