New Toronto street food launches, Stephen Colbert goes foodie

• Toronto is finally launching its new street food program this weekend with a variety of ethnic food. But famed cookbook writer Naomi Duguid is less than impressed with the execution, which has priced out many potential vendors. [Toronto Star]

• Health Canada is considering allowing junk food producers to add nutrients to their products. We’re suspicious that the somewhat creepy initiative will do little to improve the health and well-being of Twinkie lovers. [CBC]

• At a San Jose office, 28 people became ill and a local hazardous material unit was brought in after some extremely pungent rotten food was unearthed during a clean-out of the company fridge. [Independent Online]

• Stephen Colbert, host of the Colbert Report, recently filmed an entire show about food, interviewing Michael Pollan, author of In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto. He also took cameras to a high-end restaurant, where he proceeded to dine and dash on a $1,000 meal. [Eat Me Daily]

• Apparently Twitter can be useful after all. Kobi BBQ, a fleet of Korean-style taco vending trucks in L.A., is using it to alert customers to the locations of its trucks. In under 140 characters, of course. [Mercury News]
