Latest buzz: bee pollen is the new super-disturbing superfood

The National Post’s health food guru, Meghan Telpner, wants to like bee pollen (who doesn’t?), but she’s having trouble. It tastes like a cross between potpourri and Irish Spring soap, and she sheepishly admits that she can’t stand the stuff. Telpner is calling on readers to find ways of making the semi-edible bee by-product—billed in her column as “the most complete food on earth”—more palatable.

It’s a shame this new wonder food doesn’t taste as yummy as pomegranates (all the rage a few years ago), since the pollen apparently grants everything from extra energy and weight loss to reduced PMS symptoms and increased virility in men. To be honest, we were pretty excited about the whole thing, but in the end, Telpner lost us at, “Bee pollen is basically bee sperm.”
