Cinq 01 closes, Italian eatery Briscola Trattoria to take its place next week
Nighttime entertainment vets Charles Khabouth of Ink Entertainment and Toufik Sarwa of Amber have announced a new collaboration that will take over the space of Sarwa’s former College Street bistro Cinq 01. The new restaurant, Briscola Trattoria, will be a casual Italian eatery, and is set to open next Friday, February 18 (Cinq 01 closed in January).
In the kitchen, executive chef Sean Reeve—formerly of Toronto’s Via Allegro and Cioppino’s Mediterranean Grill and Enoteca in Vancouver—will turn out traditional southern Italian cuisine with a modern touch (think eggplant parmesan or slow-braised veal ragout with porcini mushrooms and egg pappardelle). The wine list will lean toward Italian and Californian selections.
Commute Home (the people behind Nyood’s design) is giving the interior a facelift with a communal table in the back, three VIP booths and a mix of wood, marble, and metal tables.

If Cinq 01 closed in January, why is it featured in the restaurants section of Toronto Life’s March 2011 issue?
Because torontolife doesn’t know what’s going on as usual they are lost
Actually, it’s because publishing deadlines are months in advance of any given issue and Cinq 01 likely closed after the March issue was published.
@Louise: if they’re so clueless, why are you on their site?
@possum: because there is always a glimmer of hope that most of the time they know what they’re talking about.
