Family-style meals + the Internet = The Social Feed (which launches in Toronto tomorrow)

Ever since Toronto’s first iteration of Dishcrawl sold out well in advance, we’ve been sure there’d be more let’s-all-eat-out-together events hitting the city. Enter The Social Feed, a Vancouver-based organizer of family-style dinner parties, which launches in Toronto tomorrow night with a meal at Czehoski that’s, yes, already sold out.

The concept: would-be feeders browse set menus on Social Feed’s site, buy a ticket and meet at the designated restaurant on the night. Expect 20 or so 20-something diners (this crowd skews young) all sitting at a long table, serving themselves from the platters being passed around. Founder Reggie Mulligan has some solid fine dining credentials, having spent time at The French Laundry and Vancouver’s Lumière. He told us the idea grew out of the massive dinner parties he used to hold, where friends, and then friends of friends, would show up: “We clued in that they became more fun and exciting as more random people came.”

Tickets for next week’s Marben dinner are also gone, but spots for Social Feed’s third event, a dinner at The Drake featuring pickled herring and smoked sausages, are still up for grabs at $38 each. Drinks, of course, are extra.
