Mini Food Truck Eats today to feature El Gastrónomo Vagabundo and Francisco Alejandri of Agave y Aguacate

It seems only natural that summer’s two hottest foodie magnets, food truck events and pop-up restaurants, would be married sooner or later (and that social media would be a bridesmaid). Today, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., popular food truck El Gastrónomo Vagabundo will be appearing in the parking lot in front of Tom Jones Steakhouse (17 Leader Lane, off King Street East), this time with guest chef Francisco Alejandri from Kensington’s popular Agave y Aguacate.

The menu hovers around $7 and features Oaxacan green ceviche, crab cakes, fried chicken balls and a tomato and Niagara peach salad with goat cheese. If the first two Food Truck Eats events are any indication of the city’s hunger for food prepared from a mobile location, we’d suggest you arrive early.

Street food lovers who can’t make it today, take heart: Suresh Doss, publisher of Spotlight Toronto and the man behind Food Truck Eats, tells us that a permanent installation is in the works. The street food market will be located in a well-known landmark space that will be announced on a future date. Doss hopes this new space will help bypass the restrictions imposed on vendors by the city’s strict regulation on where food trucks can operate. A series of food truck–related events, including another pop-up (distinct from Food Truck Eats) will be hosted in the new space starting next week.
