Could Riverside’s Toucan Taco Bar, at 686 Queen Street East, be the canary in the coal mine of Toronto’s taco craze? Richard Henry opened the restaurant last spring right near the peak of the city’s taco trend, but he’s already shut its doors and plans to replace it with a new concept come January. (He refused to divulge what it will be—Roadrunner Ramen, perhaps?) Before it was Toucan, the space housed Henry’s Le Rossignol, which he relocated down the street into the same space as his Le Canard Mort, to make space for the taco bar.
His prices were really high. Can’t compare it to La Carnita or Grand Electric. Also a totally different vibe.
I do believe that la canard mort is for sale also. This space has a bad history even before they arrived there 4 years ago.
So good luck with the next venture.
Another who gives a damn.
these idiots and their terrible ideas. the area is ripe for something properly run with a simple idea. riverside is a complete waste of space and clearly isn’t the owners priority. its unfortunate because its a great place to live.. to eat.. not at all. Rashers is awesome though!
The tacos were pretty boring. Very disappointing when compared to La Carnita. But did have some good tacos at the bar of Goods & Provisions…so there’s hope for a little Latin in Leslieville/Riverside
