Toronto restaurateur strives to reshape and rename “killer” hot dogs

Isn't danger part of the fun? (Image: LordKhan)

We’re trying not to see something Freudian in the recent demand to change the shape of hot dogs. According to the American Pediatrics Association, “If you were to design the perfect plug for a child’s airway, you couldn’t do much better than a hot dog.” Well, a Toronto restaurateur has finally decided to think of the children. Louis Nemes, the poultrymonger who runs St. Louis Wings, has designed a round hot dog “patty.” Though it possesses the off-putting appearance of Spam, the carnal circle is actually made from German bologna. We’re not sure that’s any better, but Nemes seems convinced, noting that the only problem now is coming up with a name. Wasn’t it Shakespeare who said a hot dog by any other name is called a sandwich?
