The details: Yes, this is getting a little ridiculous. In yet another update to their original alert, the CFIA is warning customers to throw out dried basil products traced back to a Scarborough facility. The culprit: potential salmonella contamination, which may not make the food appear spoiled, but which could cause all sorts of unpleasantness. Luckily, there have been no reported illnesses yet. Those now permanently turned off dried basil can follow Origin and Colborne Lane chef Claudio Aprile’s advice: “Just grow it. Cheaper, tastier, fresher, safer.” [CFIA]
