Despite its proximity to Yorkville mainstays Sotto Sotto and Spuntini, 120 Avenue Road has been a tricky address for restaurateurs. Short-lived trattoria Maléna lasted just over two years in the space. Now its successor, Richard Andino’s fusion spot Dyne, has met a similar fate. The Iberian-Asian restaurant closed this month after just over a year in business.
Dyne opened in early 2013 and was well received by both critics and diners—which is why the sudden closure comes as a bit of a surprise. “The last few months have been very successful, especially January,” explains Andino. “But the first part of the year was a struggle.” Ultimately, Andino decided that it didn’t make financial sense to keep the restaurant running in its current location, and he sold the business earlier this year.
That doesn’t mean Dyne is dead, though—at least not as a concept. “There could definitely be a reincarnation of Dyne,” Andino says. “In a different location, maybe, where there’s more foot traffic.” Dyne served its last meal on Saturday, January 18.
