Conrad Black’s legal tormentor gets new job, salary bump
Posted on May 7, 2008 by Douglas Bell
The Chicago Tribune notes today that Conrad Black’s tormentor-in-chief, Eric Sussman, has moved on to head up the regulatory enforcement and white-collar litigation practice at Chicago firm Kaye Scholer, a top-tier U.S. litigation shop. Sussman is all atwitter at his new prospects and considerable salary bump:
I am thrilled to be joining Kaye Scholer’s pre-eminent Regulatory Enforcement and White Collar Litigation practice. I look forward to working with my fellow litigators throughout the United States in representing our clients and to further develop our practice.
In announcing his appointment, the firm listed his bona fides:
Among the cases that Mr. Sussman handled personally were the successful corporate securities and tax fraud prosecution of Conrad Black and other top executives of Hollinger International relating to the embezzlement of millions of dollars from the corporation.
He joins the firm June 1—just four days before the Seventh Circuit hears Black’s appeal. I wonder if he’ll take an hour off to hear whether his résumé holds up under scrutiny.

Well done, Mr. Sussman, and my best wishes for continuing success in the latest stage of your career. May you be a plague on greedy corporate crooks and deprive them of their ill-gotten gains in the civil courts while your former colleagues do their best to send them to join His Lardship in the Crowbar Hotel, where he now resides thanks to you!
Note to Coleman administration: If His Lardship is seen to be making dolls at prison handicrafts class, please make sure he does not acqire possession of pins! ROFL

This hardly comes as a surprise. Sussman has done well with his own personal corruption.
Conrad built a newspaper empire that all Canadians should be proud of.
His trial jury was unfortunately composed of people that see themselves as society's losers and victims. They were poor because Conrad was rich and so they did convict.
To those many Canadians who saw injustice in the Brenda Martin matter, look carefully at the Conrad Black case and have our leaders prepare a Parliamentary Review into this most dreadful foreign miscarriage of justice against a born Canadian.

Wait a minute zinger, are you the guy who got stuck with all those "Free Conrad Black" T-shirts? Oh well, they'll be worth something someday if only for their ironic value.

Super news on an otherwise slow news day.....like Eric and am confident, contrary to Bell's opinion, that Eric's resume will most assuredly " hold up to scrutiny ". Best wishes to Mr. Sussman for his handling of CB trial and in all future endeavours.....:-). Basically? WAY TO GO, ERIC!!!!!

ould not resist to blog posters, excluding leaf - the lunatic leaf really thinks anyone here ( or anywhere ) cares.....If it ( leaf ) were not so sad it would be a hilarious - a true source for provoking laughter, scoffing and rolling of eyeballs.....if one treats leaf as as the crackpot it/he/she is, then the posts emanating from this sick individual are rendered far easier to digest....lol
leaf May 7, 2008 at 9:14 p.m.
Donna/sandy/casey/Jeanne/jello = Douglas bell ??? *
As per true leaf fashion, I won’t just throw accusations out of thin air.
Here is why I believe we are in the presence of impostering from our terrific blog master:
* this is a partial list but you get my drift…
~~~~~~~
as with fickton, a particular post initiated my suspicion:
Casey April 19, 2008 at 7:19 a.m.
“We here in our part of the universe only laugh at YOU and how stupid and so totally clueless to 1) what we know about you 2) when we will notify your isp ( there are only a few in your location...)”
Indeed, there are only few in my location. How would she know? A little too specific to be a wild guess if you ask me…
“Good luck with your 2 plus err computers, etc.....lol. ...better get someone to help you become " anonymous " again, because you are not now....”
as a matter of fact, I’ve been posting from 2 different locations. Subtly, casey let me know she was aware of that. how would she know?
Ok so of course I don’t buy casey’s “ internet expert hackers” hiring. Does anybody?
A hacker would need to get into TL’s network in order to get IP addresses. That is illegal hence obsolete as any information illegally obtained can not be used to obtain personal info from ISP.
Everybody understand?
Why would anyone spend money on obsolete info?
So….. who does it leave? Who has access to the blog’s posters IP addresses?
Why, TL of course.
Here is my response when I read casey’s revealing email:
leaf April 19, 2008 at 12:25 p.m.
casey, i can't believe you have outed yourself.
ohhhh the implications......
OMG
No response from Casey. she vanished with no explanation only to reappear, good golly miss molly, 16 days later, on may 5th. That in itself is awkward, ain’t it?
~~~~~~~~~~
Jello took over in casey’s absence, coming up with a most unlikely accusation:
“Here my hypothesis, Leaf is really Doug Bell himself.” - jade_lee May 5, 2008 at 12:36 a.m.
Where oh where did that come from??? I’ve tried to get a response from jello, to no avail.
I’ll tell you where that came from: jello/casey knew that I knew who the big league was. ‘she’ knew I was going to come forward, sooner or later, with my suspicion: casey = doug bell. So, ‘she’ thought she’d get a head start. Problem is, she can’t explain why she made the claim I was DB …
Thoughts?
Donna’s obsessive/compulsive character makes sense now. So do all ‘her’ other aliases.
Basically? Good golly miss molly this blog is fun!
GravityLevity2 May 7, 2008 at 10:07 p.m.
leaf, my unrequiting sweetie, I know who I think you may be, and it ain't Doug Bell, and it ain't Barbara Amiel--though you are a bit of a fan of hers.
BTW, do you have any thoughts on Eric Sussman and his new job? though I think Patrick Fitzgerald (whom Karl Rove may have tried to have fired last year--see Newsweek), is even more your type.
leaf May 7, 2008 at 10:43 p.m.
GL2, I’ve no idea who you are but I know you have good taste in people-posting-on-blogs. You are a charmer and I’m not insensitive to that.
Still, I’ve no opinion or care about ES or PF. Basically? No lawyer is my type.
As for BA, let me be superficial if I may: I think she looks terrific. She knows how to pick plastic surgeons.

Good one about the T-shirts, Barbara in BC. They might be valuable one day - perhaps in a Rogue's Museum collection. I have one with a picture of Gandhiji on it and the text "My life is my message".
His Lardship could probably have said the same - and he got the feedback on his message from the jury in Chicago.
Karma be praised.
Am I missing something? All those posts from you-know-who - what a fertile imagination! LOL
The little computer program I wrote tells me that His Lardship has been inside now for 66 days- 1,734 to go.
I can just imagine Eric Sussman asking to see the boss some time next September after His Lardship's appeal is shot down and suggesting that a substantial raise might be in order. My guess is he'll get it, too, and won't even have to come out with L'oreal line: "Because I'm worth it!".

LOL and great post....Incidentally, Fintan, if one wastes a few minutes to give a not more than cursory glance at 1)clocked times in any given thread of leaf's posts 2) amounts of posts in same thread, a rather disturbing profile emerges of leaf and its/his/her typical day and night and hence life - a loner who sits at computer screen(s), in a shade-drawn and darkened room / sewer and whose entire life is consumed with not only THIS blog but others, who visits multiple adult AND child porn sites ( simply read the addresses of the emails the worm, leaf posts here ), whose posts are overflowing with references to porn and other disturbing / sick content as well as posts that are absolutely obssessed with posters to this blog, etc., etc., posts that are hate - filled, raging , consisting of rubbish and drivel that make no sense whatsoever and finally, posts that are strictly aimed at manipulating and ultimately destroying this and other blogs.
Essentially then, Fintan, the bottom line is that leaf literally has no life apart from the internet - mainly the posters to this blog, porn sites, paedophilia......I suppose this is really what true KARMA is all about....
Gotta run - busy day / evening ahead....

You heard it here first!
Looks like the finances are starting to squeeze a bit and the Palm Beach mansion is up for sale. Why not? His Lardship will never see it again and why would Morticia need seven bathrooms? She ought to check into a modest little house near or in the village of Coleman and then she wouldn't need to drive seven hours to make the round trip to see His Lardship. About time she did something about global warming. LOL
Or could this be the beginning of the end? She'll stick around until his appeal has failed, maybe in September or October, and then try her luck in London.
What a place that mansion is, though! A far cry from Coleman and the tiny cubicle he is sharing with Bubba.
http://realestalker.blogspot.com/2008/05...
The reader comments are interesting.
I hope Casey enjoys reading this when she returns from her busy day and - hopefully enjoyable - evening.
When the civil suits against the two of them get under way, the mansion in Toronto is likely to have to go under the hammer as well. Only right.
Much pettier crooks leave prison with only a few dollars to their name and many of them have little or no education to enable them to earn a living. His Lardship started life with a silver spoon in his mouth and has only his own hubris and greed to blame for his present plight.
When and if he emerges from Coleman and re-starts his life, he should not be in a more privileged position than poor old Bubba will be.
Karma be praised.

Fintan, good job to spot that news about the Black's Florida mansion being for sale. It's not hard to foresee that Her Ladyship's visits to the joint will probably tail off once she doesn't have a Florida pied a terre any more.
Looks a little indecently hasty, though, doesn't it? It's been only two months or so since the cell door slammed on Crosstalker. I thought appearances were important to Her Ladyship.
leaf May 8, 2008 at 6:42 p.m.
jeanne, have a little faith in her ladyship. who says she's not selling that beast of a house for something a little cosier, a little closer to her paramour?

Casey May 8, 2008 at 7:02 p.m.
Thanks to Fintan for that link above about selling of PB mansion. You were correct - made for an excellent take on the Blacks. By the way, for what it is worth and if Lit200 is reading this blog, it is worth noting that the latest Black biographer, George Toombes, was actually approved by CB in advance and given complete unfettered access to CB. Toombes, I might add, was NOT one of CB's detractors and held a fairly impartial objective perception, if not outright partiality of the Crosstalking Lord. Nevertheless, Toombes emerging views on CB begin to turn against the Lord until the biography's final pages when Toombes no longer supported CB but had decided and determined that the public and private CB's are and were the same - a blustering, disliked, arrogant, boastful, blustering, pompous and bloated big mouth. Sad....

Casey May 8, 2008 at 8:03 p.m.
I neglected to mention in my post re Toombes vs. CB that of course, Toombes was and is convinced, after interviewing CB for his book, that CB was and is indeed 100% guilty as charged of fraud and obstrction of justice. In fact, Toombes believes that CB actually should have been found guilty on all 13 charges, including RICO.
Sorry for ommission re Toombes' opinion re CB guilt.

Jeanne: "Looks a little indecently hasty, though, doesn't it? It's been only two months or so since the cell door slammed on Crosstalker. I thought appearances were important to Her Ladyship."
LOL, quite right, but one of her main appearance-related fears wasn't realised: His Lardship didn't have to wear orange.
As for it being "only" two months or so - in fact, he's been there now for 67 days and has about 1,733 to go - it reminds me of Einstein's explanation of the relativity of the passage of time. To paraphrase, Scarlett Johansson sitting in my lap for half an hour would seem like the briefest of instants, but me sitting on a hot stove for ten seconds would seem like an eternity.
I guess it's like that for the duplicitous duo as he languishes in Bubba's company and she lies await nights in her casket lined with Watford soil and ponders her ever-dwindling options.
Might be, too, that they want to get as many of their assets as possible liquid and stashed as safely as possible offshore before the civil suits begin and they possibly end up having all their assets seized.
The scofflaw sprog is due in court again next Monday.
Karma be praised

Well put, Casey. Toombes was a bit of a late starter or perhaps took open-mindedness and a desire to be fair a little to excess. But even he had to open his eyes in the end and see His Lardship for the shabby little grifter that he essentially is.

Well leaf, if you read the link I'm posting you'll discover ONE person who's not too worried about child abuse: Barbara Amiel
“Very few paedophiles actually use violence or force. In the recent book Innocence Betrayed, the authors interviewed a number of people who worked for many years with paedophile offenders. does it take a PHD to read BA and understand what she's writing?!!!
she's saying that most pedophiles don't use violence and that's true.
i know you can read blondie, it's the comprehension you have a hard time with...
Fintan May 9, 2008 at 11:48 a.m.
Brilliant discovery, Barbara in BC! I hadn't read that one. Note she hadn't yet been fired by the Torygraph at the time she wrote it, but got the boot in her bony arse soon afterwards.
Now we know she supports war criminals, admires Nazis like Goebbels, defends people who torture dogs to death, and ...
How fortunate for posterity that she never became a mother!
You could paraphrase the piece like this:
"Very few corporate crooks actually use violence or force. In the recent book Innocence Betrayed, the authors interviewed a number of people who worked for many years with white-collar offenders. The therapist says violence is very rare indeed. The probation officer has never encountered it. A psychologist says: "A lot of what passes as white-collar crime does not involve physical harm to anyone ...”
Yes, the only real criminals are burglars who break into rich people's houses, uneducated poor people from the ghetto who knock over convenience stores for a few dollars, and trash like that.
Not people like His Lardship, who steal millions without ever once picking up a gun or roughing anyone up.
There just ain't no justice for rich people in this society seems to be Morticia's motto.
And paedophiles have few chances to prey on the children of the super rich, so why should society worry about them.
Wow, isn't Morticia really sui generis!
Barbara_in_BC May 9, 2008 at 11:52 a.m.
Leaf, you naughty person, there's no getting around the fact that Barbara Amiel seems to have no problem with adults DOING IT with children as long as they are gentle. No doubt about what she said.
Yet she's also known for her statement that sex is only good if it involves some pain! I guess she's talking about consenting adults in this case.
Fintan May 9, 2008 at 11:55 a.m.
Some idiot now tells us that paedophiles and rapists "don't use violence". Wow, now I'm breathless.
So it's not a violent crime if I slip some woman a rohypnol tablet and, when she passes out, have my wicked way with her? I wonder why they'd sent me to jail for years, possibly in double digits, in many European jurisdictions?
Is it not violence if I don't batter her into submission, but only use liquor or some other substance to make her pass out?
Rape - of adults or children - IS a violent act. Always!
But nice to see how Morticia's mind - and that of her avatar - work.

I again find it rather incomprehensible, actually, that you continue to engage the lunatic, leaf. What yoyu derive from such chat? is totally beyond me and the more you respond to this very disturbed individual, the more he/she/it " gets off ", and I mean quite literally. Sad and sick and posters who continue to engage this sicko contribute to the individual's creepy and vicious objectives.
Have a nice day and evening and yes, indeed, Fintan re leaf and thanks for interesting remarks above..:-).
Re BA - a disgusting woman with disgusting opnions....*sigh*. Loves to provoke....seems the more rage and disgust she can can conjure up, the happier, more fulfilled and successful she feels. Sad once again.

No matter what, you can depend on Barbara Amiel to defend his right to send it. She always says freedom of speech is sacred.
Barbara_in_BC May 9, 2008 at 12:55 p.m.
Hey, Barbara Amiel is not one to turn her nose up at online porn sites either! It's positively healthy:
”A strong argument can be made that looking at child pornography must be a means of sublimation. Diverting the urges from real children to photos, print sources and the internet does give our children protection…. Our electronic culture has many flaws and may lead to a flattened, more vulgarised culture, but any suggestion that the internet produces or even reinforces human brutality is totally contradicted by historical evidence.”

Fintan May 9, 2008 at 1:26 p.m.
Another Morticia gem; "...but any suggestion that the internet produces or even reinforces human brutality is totally contradicted by historical evidence..."
I don't see any footnotes leading to literature references - and it's not much more than a decade since the Internet became accessible to any meaningful proportion of the global population. So much for "historical references"!
But, naturally, Morticia would never let her hauteur and arrogance and prejudices be weakened by a lack of supporting facts or a plethora of contradicting ones.
At time like this, I'm inclined to believe His Lardship will eventually see it as a blessing in disguise that the Feds sent him to Bubbaland and his exposure to her malign and perverting influence is drastically reduced. Even better for him when she hooks it back to London - in the mistaken belief that she will be anything other than the butt of a million cruel jokes there.
For all we know, Bubba may not be half as bad as his metres-long criminal record indicates and His Lardship may emerge, some time in late 1913, a better man for having known him.
ROFLMAO at the thought.

ok - done.
how is this post any different than his other 4-5000 ones?
in absolutely no way different.
fickton epitomizes the one track mind. i can't even begin to imagine the boredom but, like he infamously wrote, he is an "underachiever".
talk about understatement!!!

Casey May 10, 2008 at 1:41 p.m.
Than you - NOT - for your support of leaf's ridiculous and ongoing drivel - it makes perfect sense coming from the likes of you. And kindly inform youraelf on the precise meaning of the word " yenta " - you clearly haven't a blessed clue. And, quite frankly, you set women back a hundred years with your permission to allow leaf to continually insult you and your intelligence. I am starting to think that you probably deserve this abuse - you clearly ask for it........
Casey May 10, 2008 at 1:47 p.m.
correction " permission to allow " = " permission " - ommit " to allow " - redundant.
To Barbara_in_BC
And furthermore, your engagement of leaf on a continuing basis insults the other posters to this blog because your responses to this moron imply that leaf is worthy of acknowledgement.
Casey May 10, 2008 at 1:54 p.m.
To Barbara_in_BC
I have tried repeatedly to tolerate your aquiescence to leaf's sick abuse to yourself and others on this blog and this acceptance of same has indeed become nauseating. One has to wonder what you are thinking when you permit this idiot to call you " blondie " and constantly " laugh " at you....pathetic...*sigh*
jade_lee May 10, 2008 at 2:24 p.m.
The fact of the matter is, nobody controls what each of us types on this blog but several of us have an opinion about it.
Barbara_in_BC May 10, 2008 at 3:15 p.m.
Casey: yen·ta
n. Slang
A person, especially a woman, who is meddlesome or gossipy.
[Yiddish yente, back-formation from the woman's name Yente, alteration of Yentl, from Old Italian Gentile, from gentile, amiable, highborn, from Latin gentīlis, of the same clan
American Heritage Dictionary

Barbara_in_BC May 10, 2008 at 3:15 p.m.
And I shall continue to suffix leaf's rubbish that gets posted here as " meh " because this is the only word that I can think of to adequately describe leaf's constant abuse - to everyone on this blog. Quanlifying leaf's garbage as essentially junk ( " meh " ) and/or simply ignoring this loser are the only logical and reasonable actions that someone of leaf's ilk comprehends.

What the above 2 posts claim is that 1) you resort to a particularly odious type of name - calling when you lack anything meaningful response 2) still haven't a clue what the word " yenta " means and, in fact, misuse the word completely ( totally out of context, for one thing ) as befits someone of your ilk and membership in that class of individuals who like to get down and dirty when all else fails. Simply? You represent baiting ( and I know that you catch my drift ) at its very worst - disguised as sort of low key response....same old, same old - one's true colors always present themselves ultimately....sad...*sigh*
Casey May 10, 2008 at 8:14 p.m.
anything meaningful respose = any meaningful response
Casey May 10, 2008 at 8:20 p.m.
Moreover, Barbara_in_BC, if you had wanted to call me a gossip, which description here on this blog vis a vis my posts to date, begs further explanation..?, one has to ask oneself why you didn't simply errr call me same....I think we already know the answer to this ...

No you don’t and you won’t. unlike the worthless creep, I don’t feel the need to share my personal daily affairs with a bunch of strangers on a blog filled for the most part by imposters.
So casey, why don’t you jump in and tell everyone what you spent your hard cash on with your “hired hackers”…?
I’m so curious to know what money can buy today for a curious beast like you.
Some investment you made there. You did say at one point that you had no knowledge of finance. Now, you’ve proved it.

It works in a similar way to fathers at work. Besides, a teenage girl doesn't need constant supervision. What world do you live in?

a world where teenage girls get pregnant, get booze, get dope and probably get confused and feel misunderstood.
