Nutbar Puritanism alive and well at the FCC, Stephen Harper’s cabinet table

Posted on March 19, 2008 by Douglas Bell

“The issue of vulgar speech on the nation’s regulated airwaves, a flash point for decades, reached the Supreme Court again on Monday,” reported yesterday morning’s New York Times.

The justices agreed to give the Federal Communications Commission a chance to defend its decision to start punishing broadcasters for the isolated and fleeting on-air use of expletives, an abrupt change in the commission policy that a federal appeals court last year found procedurally improper.

This FCC initiative dovetails nicely with the Tories’ recent effort (Bill C-10) to restrict funding for proposed Canadian films that exhibit overt vulgarity—or whatever the hell it is they object to. It’s all a bad idea born of nutbar Puritanism and, if successful, is certain to foment the sort of Rube Goldberg censoring mechanisms that have plagued film and television in the past.

At any rate, I thought the whole sordid tale was a good opportunity to replay the following now-infamous fuck scene from HBO’s The Wire—the best show ever to appear on television. Pray to God that now that it’s off cable, it will go into broadcast syndication.

Justices Take Up On-Air Vulgarity Again [New York Times]

Just a quick comment to say that as much as I adore the US, there has always existed a puritanical sensibility here, which is unsurprising since it was the Puritans, fleeing Europe ( if my history is correct, not taking time to check ) who initially settled in the colonies. It is a no brainer that American society is extremely self righteous and consciously prudish when it comes to cussing, sex, etc. as per Larry Flynt's trial for obscenity, for starters. There also existes an evident hypocracy in the US regarding sexuality, etc. - sometimes, to me anyway, there seems to be much fence straddling and an inability to reconcile America's own puritanism with and speech as well as disturbing photos, etc., of say Britney and Paris sans undergarments below the waist. In my opinion, there should be greater emphasis on free speech and freedom of printed word versus photos that are uncalled for and exploitive. ( Spears, Paris, etc. )

leaf March 19, 2008 at 1:42 p.m.

“Does anyone else think that leaf has romantic designs on Fintan?”

“leaf has a real, righteous thing for fintan”

this ain’t hypocracy?

And yourself donna, you’re not a 1st class hypocrite?
Whether you call yourself casey, kimmy, Jeanne, sandy, or any of your forgettable names, you remain the same self-righteous, willingly blind, black hearted poster.

The blonde is just dumb and wants to make herself interesting. The fact that she made prank calls to her schoolgirl crush shows that her hypocrite days go way back.

Roger… I could not care less about.

Fickton… what can I say about anyone who NEEDS to express his vulgarity day in, day out? Using the excuse that he’s doing it to annoy me is pathetic and hypocritical. He’s been doing it since day 1.

all 3 of you refuse to condemn this worthless, pointless, repetitive vulgarity or even acknowledge it. you represent that portion of society that thrives on gossip.

obsessively living your life vicariously through conrad black, for years, you are a depressing lot!

GravityLevity2 March 19, 2008 at 1:59 p.m.

the US is also the world's leading manufacturer of hard-core porn and general sexual imagery. The real problem is that they want to compartamentalize portrayals of sex in the same comparment with general vulgarity and tawdriness and in a separate compartment from portrayals of and fit for "respectable life" and "family values".

Fintan March 19, 2008 at 2:51 p.m.

GravityLevity2 has it exactly right. The Americans are such hypocrites about these things.

Indeed, if they had their way I wouldn't be able to write the word "arse" as in His Lardship's big fat neocon one, or "bugger" as in what is probably being done to it on a regular basis these days. LOL

But it's OK to "waterboard" people and torture them in other ways, kill thousands of people as "collateral damage" and so on and so on.

The kind of people that are always going on about what they see as "bad language" are probably all closet cases, who secretly lust to do the kinds of things that happen in porn movies. And, as we have seen all so often, many of them also do it on the quiet with whores, when they aren't attending church with their Barbie Doll wives or spouting off about "family values" or thumping their craws and Bibles.

The classic example is, of course, lit/leaf, who has clearly been a victim of some really nasty kind of abuse, has mixed feelings of guilt and lust for more as a result and projects those feelings onto everyone else - especially me, knowing that I have time only for women who are attractive either in the physical sense or the intellectual, or preferably both, and run a mile from all kinds of screwed-up and probably disgustingly obese cranks like her. For a good reason - that kind of ugly and crazy fruit-and-nut bar scares the hell out of me, in the way that lepers scared people in an earlier era.

I expect at least 100 nuisance calls tonight. All in vain, of course.

ROFLMAO

Sorry, Casey, just can't resist the temptation to poke fun at poor lit/leaf. It's the only kind of poking she's likely to experience. LOL

Lit_200 March 19, 2008 at 3:21 p.m.

The Great Arse proves again that is... well, a Great big Arse.

But for those of the ABB who may still have a little sense in their noodles, consider what Black and co took from Hollinger (and what he is temporarily in jail for taking) -- which was a sliver of the huge profit he engineered by selling off newspapers -- and what the CEOs of some financial companies are taking, even though their companies are falling about their ears.

WaMuSkipCustomersSaveTheExecs

If an innocent like Black gets six, what should REAL crooks get.

Lit_200 March 19, 2008 at 3:37 p.m.

Doug Bell's link is hilarious. Two cops figure out how a murder was committed and communicate it clearly to the audience. And the only word they use is F*CK and its variations. Brilliant.

Fintan March 19, 2008 at 3:39 p.m.

In a way, lit/leaf is touching. Reminds me of those completely brainwashed/enchanted peasants in the old vampire movies who are totally under the sway of the Count up there in Schloss Dracula. Lit/leaf can see only good in Baron Blackula. Just can't get used to the reality that he is finally where he belongs and will stay there for many years. He doesn't even need a stake through the heart; he's had it. Karma be praised.

On the theme of the kind of language the sphincterally challenged Bible-thumping advocates of family values would love to ban, here's a classic by Peter Cooke and Dudley Moore:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTifRi3qD...

Lit/leaf, listen and enjoy. Let a little humour into your miserable life.

ROFLMAO @ your craziness.

Precisely...lol. I have observed that as the criminal convictions of CB become more and more entrenched and he continues to did a deeper hole for himself re the convictions ( letter on day of entry to Coleman in which he contradicts himself about the boxes' contents ) and grows more arrogant and in denial about his overwhelming guilt, lit_200 sounds more foolish and idiotic and totally lacking in actual proof that would, in his ( lit's ) eyes ultimately free CB.
The Lord is guilty! Long live the Lord - in prison, that is.....lol.

Lit_200 March 19, 2008 at 4:12 p.m.

Actually that was part of a skit by Dudley Moore and Peter Cook,a great comedy show called "Not only but also.." on BBC. And with about as much brains as some ABB members display here, BBC ERASED the tapes in an economy drive so they could be reused. And so we lost forever the video of an epochal comedy team.

Is the Great Big Arse sure he never worked for the BBC?

Lit_200 March 19, 2008 at 4:15 p.m.

Donna makes another mistake. referring to me as "he" ... careful Donna, that will get you kicked out of the ABB

Fintan March 19, 2008 at 4:35 p.m.

Lit 200, in Finnish there is no distinction between "he" and "she". Our language is pretty gender-neutral and we have only one unisex third-person singular pronoun, hän. It makes no difference whether you are referred to as "he" or "she", what matters is only that you are a dickless twit. And of course clueless, ball-less and a terminal loser, like the whipped-arse cringing, beaten coward you can see in this picture:

http://blog.fagstein.com/2008/03/19/conr...

LOL

Lit_200 March 19, 2008 at 5 p.m.

Tch tch Great Big Arse,

temper! temper.

Try to keep your emotions from banging on that last neuron of yours. You'll wear the poor thing out.

Everybody would appreciate it if you would at least try to lift yourself up to the general intelligence level of the blog.

On behalf of Doug Bell, thank you.

Lit_200 March 19, 2008 at 5:06 p.m.

Hmmm

It had not occurred to me before. Why is the Great Big Arse responding to a note that was clearly directed to Donna?

It couldn't be... could it?

Casey March 19, 2008 at 5:08 p.m.

" Whether you call yourself casey, kimmy, Jeanne, sandy, or any of your forgettable names, you remain the same self-righteous, willingly blind, black hearted poster. " - leaf

Why thank you...I have great respect for the others you mention ie. Jeanne, Kimmy, etc. ( don't know who Sandy is ). I could post worse than to be accused of being Jeanne or Kimmy, etc.

Casey March 19, 2008 at 5:12 p.m.

Fintan? Re lit_200 - your time is too valuable, I would imagine, to either engage or acknowledge lit_200. Clearly, he's the resident nutbar here and not worthy of a response....lol

Fintan March 19, 2008 at 5:22 p.m.

Lit/leaf, what's the matter? Running out of dimes (or the local equiovalent, LOL)? Only one nuisance call so far, from the other number (not the Vancouver one). LOL

Why can't you get with the programme? Your evil Lord and Master is where he belongs, and I hope he suffers every minute of every day for the next five years plus. I'll have no problem with it if he's shanked a day before his scheduled release. My detestation of that evil neocon arsehole is all the stronger after watching an American documentary on TV. It is called "War Made Easy" (2007) and should be compulsory viewing in every American school every day of every week for the next ten years. Watch it if you can.

Here's a link: http://www.warmadeeasythemovie.org/

It shows how the neocon-supporting media, of which His Lardship was so central a part, poison public opinion and lead to the deaths of thousands of young Americans and countless others around the world. Remember, if His Lardship had had his way, young Canadians would be dying in Iraq. But probably not his hit-and-run son. LOL

The ultimate obscenity is war, and the Americans are the ultimate hypocrites if they get upset over a little ribald language and rumpy-pumpy in films and on TV.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klME1mtuT...

No suffering, no misery is too much for His Lardship, or for those who support him. LOL

Now Lit/leaf, do your worst. And remember the saying: tiocfaidh ár lá, and reflect on who you are dealing with.

ROFLMAO and looking forward to meeting you - when it suits me.

Fintan March 19, 2008 at 5:30 p.m.

Lit/leaf: "On behalf of Doug Bell, thank you."

Idiot, if Mr. Bell has anything to say to me, I'm sure he's capable of doing so himself and would hardly authorise the resident flake to speak on his behalf.

ROFLMAO @ your complete loserdom. Now stop pretending those fingers are His Lardship's pudgy ones and playing with your lit (LOL). You still have 99 nuisance calls to make to fill tonight's quota.

Casey, I got a lot of work done today, am way ahead of schedule and now have spare time to amuse myself with Black's little avatars. LOL

Lit_200 March 19, 2008 at 5:36 p.m.

Ooops "little avatars" plural. Could it be that the Great Big Fat Arse actually knows the fact that I am a different poster from Leaf?

Of course he knows, that's just the way that Great Big Fat Arses operate in the world.

Doug says "Hi."

LOL

Barbara_in_BC March 19, 2008 at 5:54 p.m.

I think if Doug Bell was going to comment on the blog, he'd say that Lit's constant harping on whether she's a man or woman has made posting on his blog irrelevant.

Fintan March 19, 2008 at 6:09 p.m.

Well said, Barbra in BC. Lit is a lost cause. Pity (for her and His Lardship) that we don't still live in those days centuries ago when the high-and-mighty aristocrats (as His Lardship and his despicable crone wife imagined themselves to be, LOL) could pay others to suffer their punishments for them ("whipping boys").

Lit/leaf probably wouldn't even need payment, but would do it out of misguided love/fascination/captivation and serve his Lardship's sentence for him. Perhaps Bubba's or Diesel Daisy's attentions would be enough reward in themselves. Meanwhile His Lardship and Morticia could continues to "swan gracefully" on the world stage and keep millions guffawing at their patheticness.

ROFLMAO

Good night all. It's 00.11 here and time to hit the sack and sleep through the Great Loser's nuisance calls. Only one working day before Easter.

charley March 19, 2008 at 7:33 p.m.

Further to ongoing suspicions and concerns re posters posting under multiple names I feel I must in the interests of full disclosure state that I, "Charley", am the same poster who posted under the pseudonym "Charlie" in Doug Bell's previous blog. My only excuse is that apparently the moniker Charlie was unavailable at Toronto Life so I was forced into this subterfuge. I know this sounds like mealy-mouthed rationalising but I honestly didn't intend to mislead anyone....

Casey March 19, 2008 at 7:53 p.m.

Well said, Charley / Charlie and I sometimes switch to my other aliases - Santa Clause or Tooth Fairy. I have yet to use it however. Anyway, welcome Charlie/ Charley.....:-).

Casey March 19, 2008 at 7:54 p.m.

it = them ( re 2 aliases )

Jeanne March 19, 2008 at 9:10 p.m.

I post only with this name. And no one else has ever used my name to make posts, on this blog or the previous one.

I'd also say that people's writing styles are pretty distinctive, and that to impersonate someone else's writing style for any sustained time requires a very subtle understanding of language and useage. Not saying it isn't possible, but I am saying it's not likely.

I'd still like an answer from Toronto Life. Why do you allow an abusive, bullying stalker to harrass other posters? This is not an issue of freedom of speech, in my view. Please, enlighten me.

Casey March 19, 2008 at 9:15 p.m.

Just looking again at photo Fintan posted 2 threads ago ( Jonathan Black thread ) that most have seen of CB in back seat of SUV with BA getting ready to leave for prison. ( March 3rd ). Anyway, it just occurred to me - how come the Lord didn't drive himself with BA ( she in turn would drive it back to Palm Beach ) herself. Imagine CB sweeping into Colman in that limo - must have been a shocking sight to the guards and cons...lol. Seriously, what exactly prevented these 2 arrogant disgraces ( CB and BA ) from driving themselves? I wonder if, along the way, they all stopped for lunch at a rest stop....lol. My bad. Looks like CB will have plenty of opportunity to lose that beer belly - or is that white wine belly? He looks terribly upset in photo and is holding BA's finger staring straight ahead. What must have been on his pompous mind?

jade_lee March 19, 2008 at 9:17 p.m.

What's more important, freedom or equality? I struggle with this question all the time.
I do think we need to keep government censorship out of our entertainment. Censorship laws are really odd and we need to limit them. Trust the religious right to go there, it's their not so hidden agenda.
It's all about weeding out the inappropriate, choosing and parenting.
I am sure this sounds bad but I remember when my son was much younger and someone asked him what his favorite movie was and he sweetly said, "Saving Private Ryan"! I wanted to disappear into the wall as all the parents glared at me! I am pleased to say my son is almost a man and quite wonderful despite his early exposure to propaganda war movies that were perhaps far too graphic for his developing mind.

Jeanne March 19, 2008 at 9:21 p.m.

Almost three weeks since Lord Crosstalker was incarcerated, and not a peep from him. I must say, I'm surprised. I expected he would have thought ahead, and dashed off some expository essays in advance, with instructions to his minions or his wifey to forward them at intervals so, as the Stan Rogers' song said "...[his] name would not be lost to the knowledge of men." (Apologies to Stan, he'd have sunk CB lower than the Mary Ellen Carter if he'd had the chance, I'm sure).

Can it be possible that this is the way our connection with CB ends, not with a bang but a whimper? (Or, on second reflection, with both?)

No, no. I just can't believe it. I'm giving him a little time to adjust. I don't think we've heard the last of this blackguard, not yet.

Lit_200 March 19, 2008 at 9:26 p.m.

Jeanne

Not a bad comment. Quite good. There is no mistaking Donna, she falls back on the same words, the same insults, the same grammatical mistakes, the same insulting tone, whether she posts as donna, as sandy, as casey ... it is the same person and everyone knows it.

I do hope I don't fall into the category of stalker. I have no ambition to "be with" or even to harass another blogger. But I do feel inclined to respond to insults. Perhaps I should rise above this and just refuse to respond to the Great Big Arse and Donna.

It would be a good thing to do. The difficulty is that I want to defend the downtrodden, the defenseless, the fallen.

And so, when I see a gang of cutthroats kicking and kicking away at a person who is down, regardless of who it is, I feel a compunction... I feel a kinship with that man on the ground... that man who has lost everything, lying there and around him the ghouls... enjoying his misery, enjoying the fall of a ... well of any man really... kicking and kicking and kicking. It's rather obscene and I feel I should intervene even though I know the bullies will turn their anger on to me and kick... kick... kick me.

Well, kick away Great Big Fat Arse and donna/sandy/casey. I can take it and am proud to do so.

I identify with the downtrodden, the helpless and I abhor the bullies.

Genetic, I suppose.

LOL

JONES March 19, 2008 at 9:57 p.m.

Conrad Black? Who is that?

Jeanne March 19, 2008 at 10:19 p.m.

Lit said: I want to defend the downtrodden, the defenseless, the fallen.

Those are admirable sentiments, no one can deny that. I just don't understand how they apply to Lord Black. And if I may say, I think Black, even now, would be incensed at being described as "downtrodden", "defenseless", or "fallen."

Otherwise, there is a lot of hoo-haw posted here. I'm not telling anyone what to do, but my approach is to focus on the ideas, not the personalities.

And I, for one, Lit, do not think you are leaf. You don't use the English language the same way leaf does. It's hard, if not impossible, to fake using the language a different way for very long. Your observations about some similarities in that regard are astute.

GravityLevity2 March 20, 2008 at 12:02 a.m.

good writers with a quirk for character differentiation can write and sustain two quite different characters, especiallly when at least one of them, like leaf, is a "flat character. I don't think Lit and leaf are generated by the same person, but I don't think what leaf says about herself and her motivations is a true reflection of the motivations of the person who created her.

Casey March 20, 2008 at 12:15 a.m.

" Otherwise, there is a lot of hoo-haw posted here. I'm not telling anyone what to do, but my approach is to focus on the ideas, not the personalities. " - Jeanne

I, for one, have strayed from focusing on ideas and have allowed myself to be drawn into personality conflicts far too often for my own liking because it is immature, meaningless, irrelevant, a waste of time, tiresome and basically solves nothing. I have also permitted myself to sink to the level of certain on this blog who attack, abuse, insult when I respond in kind to some here who disagree with my opinions of CB, his guilt, the proof of same, his imprisonment, lifestyle, etc. In other words, I end of looking as foolish and obnoxious as those who attack me for my views. Which is why I agree with Jeanne's post 100% and intend to keep to my earlier promise to no longer address, engage, acknowledge or reply to anyone who deigns to focus upon personalities, engages in utterly false and totally unproven accusations and who hurls continous and mind numbing insults - going foreward. At best this behavior is childish and at worst is cruel and hurtful.

Fintan March 20, 2008 at 3:26 a.m.

What a lovely Thursday to wake up to: a crisp cold morning with a light dusting of snow, the clouds breaking up and patches of blue appearing in the sky. Only one day to pretend to be working before the long Easter break.

That is not to say that all is right with the world on this day, the fifth anniversary of the beginning of Bush's insane war against Iraq and Islam, but at least one of his most ardent cheerleaders is now where he belongs - in jail. And long may he languish in abject misery there!

Poor Lit doesn't believe in kicking 'em when they're down. But surely that's the whole point. As long as His Lardship was up, he had no compassion for anyone, and he still threatens dire vengeance against more or less the whole world if he ever gets on his feet again. Therefore I say don't just kick him; use both feet!

If he were still "out and about" today, no doubt the Nazional Post would have a column praising Bush and his war, decrying the Canadian pussies who failed to join in the crusade and generally spewing BS along the lines of his and Morticia's fascistoid neocon philosophy. Instead, it carries a report of the consequences that a disgraceful and cowardly act are likely to have for a chip off the old block.

http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs...

Jeanne is right about one thing: we may not have heard the last of His Lardship, but I still feel the chances of his ever mounting anything other than an abject failure of an attempted comeback are miniscule.

Karma be praised.

Now I look forward to a major disaster befalling Morticia.

Lit_200 March 20, 2008 at 4:08 a.m.

A little advice on Karma for the GBFA ... sent with good wishes for his re-emergence from the dark place he has allowed his heart to enter:

"In my despising, I bruise the soft tissue of the universe.
Dark things come to those who hate."

Millie

Lit_200 March 20, 2008 at 4:38 a.m.

Talking of hate:

I try not to hate President Bush, but it's difficult. When I see him on TV I have to turn away. I see him in a video proudly boasting "I am a war President!" I believe he looked forward to that, to exercising the muscle of the greatest power that ever there was on earth. More recently he has said "nobody wants to be a war President." I am reluctant to think he has actually reformed. I see him standing on the flight deck of the USS Lincoln declaring "Mission accomplished!" I am not sure he has changed, really. He recently expressed the conviction that the invasion of Iraq will be seen by history as "a good thing." How can the man ever smile again in his life, with the destruction of so many innocents? How can he ever enjoy a moment of peaceful contemplation? He has bloodied his hands and the hands of his nation in an indelible infamy. The so-called conquest of Iraq will be seen by future historians as a disaster, an economic disaster on one level, the principal cause of a huge coming recession that will affect every one of us. Was it a war to secure oil? If so, it was a huge failure on that ground too. It was a completely non-sensical foreign affairs disaster and the pennies have only begun to drop - wait until all the Arab tribes in Iraq and Iran begin their own wars with the Persians. But it was more importantly a moral and humanistic failure.

So I try not to hate him. But it's hard. I am, no doubt, building up lots of negative karma, as much as the GBFA - were such a thing to exist.

Obviously, there are those on this blog who just cannot seem to motivate themselves to behave in an adult, tolerant manner and continue to wallow in the business of insulting and attacking others - for their opinions, beliefe, ideal, values, perspectives. The only thing that this type of behavior proves conclusively is that the poster or individual who perpetrates the ongoing attack of personalities and engages in insults, etc. rather than focuses on ideas, ( whenever there is disagreement ) is that the poster who is carrying out the abuse does not feel secure in his / her opinions after all and tries to make up for this low self worth by trying to elevate himself / herself at cost of dragging someone else down - usually the individual who disagrees and who clearly has a right to do so.
As long as the poster to whom I'm referring ( and it does not require rocket sciemce to figure out who I mean ) or other posters to this blog - and I will not mention names - continue their ad hominem attacks, personality and character assassinations; who continue to waste this blog's time by forcing its regulars to read annoying, obnoxious and childish allegations and accusations re purported aliases, etc. - essentially who engages in anything that does not constitute blog or thread topic - the poster initiating the bullsh-t that I mention herein deserves to be ignored and his / her posts skipped. Case closed.

Lit_200 March 20, 2008 at 7:55 a.m.

Donna: 7:43am

"Case closed"

We all certainly hope so.

Casey March 20, 2008 at 7:59 a.m.

GBFA = Great Big Fat Arse. Firstly, this kind of underhanded and attempted coded abuse is grossly immature, particulalry when instigated by someone who is CLEARLY NOT a child and should know better, is insulting to regualrs to this site and not only to the addressee and secondly, drags down this site to the perp's level of bullsh-t and thirdly, is confirmation that perp has nothing better to do than to abuse and harrass and finally, this namecalling proves that the pposter doing so and his posts should not be taken seriously and, in fact, relegated to a sidebar that includes Disney like sites and not intelligent blogs such as this one.

Lit_200 March 20, 2008 at 8:13 a.m.

Three little questions for Donna:

Do you hope, along with the GBFA, that Conrad Black suffers physical abuse and sexual abuse in prison?

Do you, along with the GBFA, "look forward to a major disaster befalling 'Morticia'?"

Do you applaud a poster like the GBFA, who daily subjects us to these and similar unpleasant thoughts, (revealing the contours of dark and troubled interior psychological terrain) what is the duty of someone who detests these icky thoughts? Acquiesce or give them the lie?

Diogenes rules.

ValC March 20, 2008 at 8:26 a.m.

Fintan

5 years. My goodness -- has it really been that long? After 9/11, the first time I heard the phrase "War on Terror", I honestly thought that meant that our soldiers would go to places like Afghanistan, but they would protect civilians and help them build schools, medical clinics, community centres, stuff like that. I was all for that. Kind of naive of me, but I am proudly naive.

Casey March 20, 2008 at 10:19 a.m.

As I have vastly more important items on my current agenda today, I will essentially epitomize the ongoing trivia re personal attacks versus emphasis upon ideas hereis especially that abuse that encompasses the use or non use of aliases ( anonymity is a fact of life on the internet ) - the failure of certain on this board to reign in their obssessions that focus upon aliases and which failure continues to annoy, insult the basic intelligence and test the patience of posters to same, leads one to conclude that those who apparently suffer from OCD require sound psychological help and care. The relevance re the use or non use of aliases on this or any other blog is non existent and serves to sidetrack or even derail the real thread topics and issues; this kind of personal abuse is an ignorant and very obvioius way for someone who engages in focusing on aliases to ( unsuccessfully ) appear credible to other posters and to gain some strange kind of respect herein. The obssessing might be better channelled towards the obssessor focusing on what's important in the grand scheme and on, as Jeanne claimed, ideas. Unfortunately, though, the obssessors cannot or refuse to distinguish between what is interesting, significant, informative from what is basic, common, everyday garbage. For once, it would be pleasant to listen to certain obssessors here state their opinions without having to resort to the totally irrelevant and meaningless bullsh-t of who is who here. It is a complete anathema to me what in fact, aliases and names, etc., have to do with anything other than to cause trouble - which is childish, stupid and grossly annoying. Basically? Channel your OCD into something constructive rather than dumbly destructive.
Have a good day or night, people.

Lit_200 March 20, 2008 at 11:24 a.m.

I do believe Donna's 10:19 is aimed directly at the GBGA, who continually wants to change the sex of leaf and to link him with me and to suggest that Barbara Amiel, whom he calls Morticia, is part of what Donna refers to as the "childish, stupid and grossly annoying" tactic of "a loser."

So, old boy, take a lesson from Donna and "channel your OCD into something constructive rather than dumbly destructive."

Pretty good advice for mr. one note.

one for the annals of sexist language, of the sort I remember feminists (so despised by Barbara Amiel) critiquing in the 70s and 80s as perpetuating the patriarchy and phallocentric values: "only that you are a dickless twit. And of course clueless, ball-less and a terminal loser"

I guess that that means that women enter the race for Fintan's esteem automatically handicapped.

"I guess that that means that women enter the race for Fintan's esteem automatically handicapped." GravityLevity2

Not necessarily. In fact, my country is probably the one where women have advanced further than in any other. We have a woman President, have had one woman PM, women hold 42% of the seats in the Eduskunta, 10 out of 18 seats in the Cabinet ... I have no problem with that, and have often voted for women candidates. Oh yes, and I married a woman too - 38 years ago and she still hasn't left me in this most egalitarian of countries.

My insult was directed very personally and specifically at the malicious, nasty and deceitful lit/leaf, and just read back to see some of the stuff that this shadowy multiple poster has written about me, and some of the mischief that it has tried to wreak: among other things it has claimed that I am a paedophile who goes to India to exploit poor children there, made a spurious report to the police here (it was treated as a crank report), extended invitations to others to find and harm me, made dozens of nuisance phone calls in the middle of the night, and so on.

Whoever does the likes of that is not worthy of the title of either man or woman. Lit denies being leaf, but yet applauds every attack on me. Not only a liar, but a coward. If I substitute "dickless and clitless" for just "dickless" does that get me off on the charge of sexism? LOL

In return, I play on what I long ago detected as a very sensitive nerve. If lit were a man as she claims, then she would be a very incomplete, twisted and sorry excuse for one, just as she is a twisted, sorry and sad excuse for a woman. And it is very clear that her extreme hypersensitivity to male rape is her sorest point. There has to be a history of some kind that explains it and has made her so sick and malicious. That's why I continue to harp on it. And, by the way, I couldn't care less whether or not His Lardship is raped, beaten up or shanked in the slammer. I'm just glad he's no longer polluting the air of the free world. He built up that store of bad karma, no one else, and he has everything coming that happens to him.

I expect a lot of nuisance calls tonight, in vain of course, and I'm sure the boys and gals at the paedophilia unit are due another belly laugh when the next "dossier" arrives.

ROFLMAO

Lit_200 March 20, 2008 at 1:07 p.m.

wriggle wriggle wriggle. Come'n GBFA, you know very well I am not leaf, have never in my life telephoned you or anyone else in Finland, have never referred to you as a pedophile, do not threaten anyone with physical or emotional harm and I am not connected in any way with the Black family. If I harass you, it is only on this blog and only because you richly deserve it for your knee-jerk hatred of Conrad Black and especially his wife. I began to really object to your posts when you applauded the return of British soldiers from Ireland "feet first."

But you are right in one respect, I AM hypersensitive on the issue of rape. I think it is the most disgusting of crimes and I tee off on you because you have advocated it for Conrad Black and were making jokes of it, expressed your desire for it, long before I began to call you on it.

You are saying you continue in this noxious enterprise of advocating and relishing the idea of rape because it annoys me?? Good on you! Good idea! Very advanced thinking!

Fintan March 20, 2008 at 1:40 p.m.

Ha-ha-ha. "Come'n GBFA, you know very well I am not leaf, have never in my life telephoned you or anyone else in Finland, have never referred to you as a pedophile, do not threaten anyone with physical or emotional harm and I am not connected in any way with the Black family." Too cowardly to stand behind your earlier claims.

Well, we all know how credible Lit is. First His Lardship would never be convicted, then his bail would be extended indefinitely, then ... LOL

The reality is His Lardship is in jail and there he will remain. His evil wife - she who once called the Palestinians "animals" - what Nazi terminology! - is likewise suffering, and I wish her only further misery and misfortune. I'm glad the likes of Lit object to me so much. I'd really have to do a lot of soul-searching if someone like that agreed with anything I wrote.

By the way, I make no apologies for applauding the return of British soldiers from Northern Ireland "feet first". I witnessed their cowardly savagery first-hand, and was beaten up and robbed by some of them.

They should never have been there in the first place. They were not conscripts like the young Soviet soldiers in Afghanistan at the same time, for instance, and every body bag that went back to England helped bring closer the happy situation that they have in Northern Ireland today now that the fascist Orange regime that those thugs were there to support has been consigned to the dustbin of history.

So put that in your pipe and smoke it, madame!

LOL @ your mixture of silliness and nastiness.

To Fintan -

In case you were unclear as to whom I focused my last post, please be assured that it was NOT to you. But I think you gathered that. There is one here who is deep in the thoes of OCD, meaning that it handles HER rather than SHE controlling it. It's sad to watch this person unravel and basically come apart at the seams. Best to just ignore, Fintan and acknowlege this male or female when or IF it has anything to say related to this blog, anything to say that is meaningful and anything to say that is NOT discussing ideas but instead is focusing upon personalities.

Fintan March 20, 2008 at 2:14 p.m.

Casey, I understood your last post perfectly - as always. You are quite right about the resident nutbar.

On a lighter note: I saw several "Easter bunnies" a couple of hours ago when I was out with my dog. But I shouldn't have, because rabbits were not part of the fauna in Finland until someone released some pet ones into the environment in Helsinki a few years ago.

They have been doing what rabbits do ever since and a couple of mild winters in a row have led to a veritable population explosion - and enormous damage to shrubs and trees, because they eat the bark off in the winter and the plants die.

They can't be shot in a built-up area, snares are illegal, so the city is now trying to catch them in nets and kill them with bows and arrows. I suspect they will be about as successful as His Lardship's lawyers in the appeal. LOL

But maybe Morticia should visit here in between visits to Coleman and walk through the parks. That should scare the rabbits so much they won't stop running until they reach Siberia.

But, just as a gesture of kindness to the unfortunate lit/leaf, here's a video that shows it is possible to get sozzled enough to be able to say "I love Morticia." Only in Sweden! ROFL

The Great Big Fat Arse forgot to bring up his wish for the rape of Conrad Black.

Is he going soft?

Donna is continually berating me for one thing or another. Frequently that I have nothing to say. I would never do this otherwise, but to make a point, here are some of the ideas I introduced this morning -

1. How despicable bullies are
2. why one should stand up for the weak and helpless, even if they are not likeable
3. The wonderful comedy of Dudley Moore and Peter Cook in the late lamented BBC comedy "Not only but also..."
4. The brilliance of the HBO detective show "wire"
5. Poetry by Millie: "In my despising, I bruise the soft tissue of the universe.
Dark things come to those who hate."
6. Wrestling with my distaste for Bush
7. the nature of Karma
8. The crudity and vulgarity of wishing a disaster to fall on the head of Barbara Amiel.

Well, that's all I can remember. I live in the realm of ideas. Now, look over your posts, Donna. What ideas have you introduced into the blog for the consideration of others?

Re: #8 in Lit200's above post, see final paragraph in this 2004 article:

Joe Conason's Journal

Aside from ethical sleaziness, the disintegration of Conrad Black's newspaper empire offers yet another example of right-wing hypocrisy.

Jan 5, 2004 | Amiel to savor
It is difficult to feel sorry for Conrad Black, the press baron whose Hollinger newspaper empire seems about to disintegrate because of his alleged looting of the company. And it is impossible to feel anything but joy at the embarrassment of those illustrious personages who sat on the Hollinger board -- including Henry Kissinger, Richard Perle, Marie-Josee Kravis, former Illinois Gov. James Thompson (!), and convicted felon Alfred Taubman (!!) -- all of whom sat silently as Black shoveled shareholder assets into his and his cronies' private ventures.

According to today's New York Times, these very smart and very very important people spent just enough time on Hollinger board business to rubber-stamp Black's shenanigans and vote themselves a raise. For several of them, crucial questions of fiduciary responsibility appear to have been obscured by a much simpler inquiry: "Where's mine?"

Aside from the dubious ethics, of course, the Hollinger story offers yet another episode in the annals of right-wing hypocrisy. Black's flagship London "quality" newspaper, the Daily Telegraph, wasted more ink on Whitewater than any other publication outside the United States. Indeed, the Telegraph "broke" many Clinton scandal tales, few of which turned out to bear any resemblance to reality. Featured in the paper's Clinton coverage was an undisguised contempt for the "sleazy business deals" of the president and his Arkansas friends.

Among the opinion-mongers most responsible for that attitudinizing tone was Black's wife, Barbara Amiel. As a columnist she never allowed her skimpy familiarity with basic facts to interfere with her duty to tell us all what to think. In Whitewater there was "a pattern of corruption leading in an unbroken path from Arkansas to Washington," she wrote early on. "Nothing, it seems, can embarrass Bill Clinton."
Now I suppose we shall see what, if anything, can embarrass Amiel, whose domestic staff was apparently subsidized by Hollinger shareholders, at a cost of more than $230,000, and who reportedly received "previously undisclosed payments" as a member of the Hollinger board. What would become of her, Kissinger, Perle and the rest of the Hollinger crew if a zealous prosecutor had $50 million and five years to burn investigating them?
