Even when the wrong person says the right thing, it's still the right thing. Like this quote from Bower:

I'm confused by CB's explanation of obstruction charge. He first tells us the boxes he took contained "nothing relevant to the case the SEC did not already possess.." Then he proceeds to say "he didn't select the contents", "knew nothing about the contents..", "did not look at them when at his home." How then did he have a clue what was in them?Also by referring to the SEC's "case" is he not admitting he was aware of same? The argument I've heard several times that his lawyers knew but failed to tell him of not tampering with possible evidence is risible. When you have a lawyer act for you he is considered to be your agent and official communications to him are the same as to you. If he is tardy passing info on to you, get a new lawyer...

Douglas Bell is a fantascist. I was asked to leave the courtroom in Chicago once by a prejudical attendant on trumped up charges that I was speaking. I did not say a word in response. Not a single word. I just got up and left. The supposed speech cited by Bell is a complete fabrication from beginning to end. A bit like Conrad's last article for the National Post justifying his conduct and pleading his innocence.

This is what Bower can now get away saying at will since Conrad has been sent to Prison. He grafted this from the pages of the Breeden report, this would have to be true if there was a $400mm kleptocracy, Breeden took $300mm from Hollinger without shareholder approval. He had to bury Black in prison or he would be ordered to answer for it in civil court. That's the motive in this crime.
If Black had descent Lawyers they would have clarified everything and explained every transaction in painstaking fashion, instead he had a duo who took it upon themselves to murky the waters becasue they are used to murder trials where that is the way to raise resonable doubt neither had ever tried a corporate case.
The non competes were 2% of the deals per the contracts and board approval, even this jury did not coroberate in their verdict the claim that of Breeden tht Bower parrots re the 90% of net income being taken by Black or the $400mm kleptocracy, never in his life was Black worth $400mm and that's entire net worth never mind cash. in fact the prosecutors did not coroberate this $400mm figure either as even their original endictment didn't reflect anything near that amount closer to $60mm of which $54mm Black was acquitted of.

I have yet to read Bower's book but I intend to when someone else I know finishes reading it as I hate spending money on things like books when I know they float around for free.
I do want to read George Tomb's book on Black and have heard him speak about his book several times on the CBC. I might break down and go buy it.

The irony about minimum security is that it's only a prison classification and if any of you think for one minute that every prisoner in minimum security is only a "soft" criminal type you're wrong. Many people slip through the cracks, hell me thinks Blackula has been a crook for years but was able to dodge the bullet due to position and good lawyers. Yes, there will be some pieces of work found in that place they are calling "minimum security" but I think Conrad Black is a criminal thinker so he will fit right in.

Below is what you are referring to, if it's too hard to understand I will offer my translation, regulators had rummaged through 10 Toronto St. for 2 years prior to Black's eviction, they had access to every document in the office and had made copies of all of them. There was no court order prohibiting Black from removing his items, however he should have known not to move them and when he moved them there was a camera that recorded this. please re-read below:

On obstruction of justice, it was in evidence that I completely complied with all document requests, that the boxes being moved as I vacated my office of 27 years contained nothing relevant to the case the SEC did not already possess. I had no knowledge of any further curiosity of theirs, nothing to do with selecting the contents of the boxes and knew nothing about their contents, and did not look at the boxes on the weekend they were in my home. - CMB

I know yesterday must have been terrible for you. A Canadian icon who thought he was above the law - actually above everything - is now doing jankers (old British Army term) duty in an American prison. But why are you so angry with me? I only tried to bring some extra comedy into one of the funniest tragicomic events in recent years.

Actually, gravitylevity, there are only two of us, The other is a multiple personality. When I posted a phone number that I only use for certain purposes, and long before leaf appeared, I took a measured risk, one that I can easily handle. I knew what I was doing. Get it? LOL

If you saw the posts that have been deleted, you would easily understand.

Now go onto the new thread and you will see that I can comment on a lot of other things besides leaf.

And I will stop commenting when news of His Lardship slows to a trickle and then peters out. Threats to reveal my name, address and so on and have who knows what happen to me will not deter me. Quite the contrary.

Fintan is not really the problem here although if he stopped engaging the two posters, leaf and Cory_Privatera, it would sure help. The problem is that the TL STAFF NEED to BAN leaf and Cory_Privatera and their IP addresses and in so doing, the blog would return to normalcy. Obviously, TL cannot or will not ban these 2 users so this blog suffers.
