Christie Blatchford and Tim Hortons: Barometers of all things Canadian

Sometimes it’s best just to report the facts as you know them and leave the opining to your betters. Here, for example, is Christie Blatchford in this morning’s Globe reporting on the goings-on at yesterday’s terrorism trial in Brampton:
In the likes of Mubin Shaikh rests what might be called the great brown hope of the great white north.
A CSIS informant turned RCMP mole, the 32-year-old is the central Crown witness at the first of the so-called Toronto 18 terror cases to actually get to trial. He is a sophisticated, well-educated, well-travelled man, so charming that for the past week, since he first took the stand here, I have come to refer to him as my first Muslim crush.
Born and bred in Toronto, Mr. Shaikh is, for lack of a better term, one of us, a moderate Muslim in the largely secular society who moves as easily at the Tim Hortons as he does in the mosque.
About an hour after I read this arrived the following from one of Spectator’s faithful correspondents: “I know that it’s fucking obvious and i won’t rant about Christie to you every week but just read it and try ‘my first Jewish crush’ or ‘my first irish catholic’ who is ‘one of us.’” [sic]
Further comment would be superfluous.

As I said in an earlier post, I believe, Bletchford in a much much earlier column dealing with race made me ashamed to be of the same race and nationality as she is. And yet she gets regularly published in the hard-copy press(to advert to the subject of the previous thread), scribblings that are at times not fit for a Tim Horton's washroom wall.

Once upon a time in another country, I had a Jewish girlfriend (or as the woman with the unfortunate initials CB would put it, "my first Jewish crush") of whom I was very fond.
She was renting a room in the home of a professor, whose wife was a stupid, snobbish and opinionated bitch.
One day she made a derogatory remark to my girlfriend about my ethnic background. Helena, that was her name, immediately replied. "Attitudes like yours helped send dozens of my extended family to the extermination camps. I'm moving out this evening, because I can no longer live under your roof."
I don't know how representative of Jewry as a whole she is, but if her principles are widely held in that community - big plus mark!
Blatchford is going the same way as those who somehow or other always found a reason to criticise or disparage Jews. She's nowhere close to the style of the scribes who wrote for Der Völkische Beobachter, but there's no such thing as a little teeny-weeny pregnancy.
