Radler’s prison bound
Posted on February 25, 2008 by Douglas Bell
A Canadian Press story reminds us that today is the day David Radler reports to prison at the Moshannon Valley Correctional Facility in Pennsylvania. Oddly, his inmate number hasn’t turned up on the Bureau of Prisons’ Web site (whereas Black, Boultbee and Atkinson’s all have); an indication, perhaps, that he’ll soon be heading back to B.C. to finish his sentence as a guest of the Crown. Beyond that, the article afforded somebody named James Morton, president of the Ontario Bar Association, the opportunity to spout off as follows: “This is really a tragic saga and we’re seeing the final chapter; it’s sort of the march to the Tower of London.” This, in turn, affords me the opportunity to point out that,
a) There is little or nothing “tragic” in all of this. A bunch of fraudsters who jobbed shareholders out of their money are getting pretty much what they deserve.
b) None of them are likely to lose their heads. Isn’t there a flack at the OBA vetting The Boss’s comments lest he sound like a dunce?
Oh, and Conrad Black weighed in to say, “I don’t know anything about what [Radler] is doing and have no comment about him.” This proves yet again that you can count the number of Lord Black’s unexpressed thoughts on one finger. Beyond that, The Independent in London started what I’m sure will be an avalanche of cheap shots as Lord Black fades from the scene.
“It is understood that Black has been granted his request to be assigned to low-security Coleman correctional facility, 50 miles northwest of Orlando. Despite its reputation as one of the least severe of low-security prisons, visits are strictly limited under a points system that permits up to three weekend or nine weekday visits a month.
“Such visits are likely to be a particular indignity for Lady Black, a right-wing journalist and formerly a formidable figure in high society. A fierce list of rules for visitors at Coleman includes a ban on ‘sleeveless garments, sweat pants, sweat shirts, sun dresses, leotards, wrap-around skirts, crop tops, low-cut blouses or low-cut dresses, low-cut jeans or low-cut shirts, halter tops, bathing suits or backless tops, hats, caps, headbands or headscarves, and Spandex pants.’”
Lady Black likely won’t respond, so I’ll pitch in on her behalf:

Morton is laughable February 25, 2008 at 12:25 p.m.
James Morton is an embarrassement and a joke - his reference to the Radler, Black saga as " tragic " is laughable. The only tragic persons in the entire Hollinger debacle are the shareholders and the felons' families.

Tower of London, indeed. I suppose it has a bit of class about it. It's where they used to top royalty and aristocrats, whereas the "ordinary people" went to a much less graceful death at Tyburn.
Nice to see Lit 200 has seen the error of her ways.

No tragedy there, it happens every day. Innocent folks are put away for long periods of time at the behest of an over-reaching "special investigator." Black did nothing wrong, the shareholders were not "jobbed" by him (under Black's management they got fat dividend payments) but by a crook by the name of Richard Breeden, who gutted the company and is now fleecing other unsuspecting investors with his (two and twenty) hedge fund.

It must be incredibly reassuring and uplifting to know that you are 100% dead on that Black is innocent, despite the fact that he has been found 100% guilty of 4 felony counts by a jury of his peers. But then of course you never considered that jury to be comprised of Black's peers, did you?. Your most recent post above sounds remarkably like it emanated from someone very close to Black - his secretary, perhaps - Joan Maida. Did Black at least foot the bill for all those dumb T - shirts? All your posts prove is that you are nothing more than a sad Black sock puppet.

Has anyone read Amielticket's latest waffle in Toothpaste?
Apart from the predictable tributes to herself and glimpses into the alleged poverty from which she escaped and mention that her mother was preggers for the fifth time, plus the sweeping statements about "Marxist infestation" of Canadian universities, it's difficult to see what her point is - if indeed there is one. Interesting that he has four full or half-siblings. She probably had little or no contact with them when she became "famous" and eventually even "Lady Black", but they might be good enough for her now that she is going down in the world. On the other hand, I really wonder whether she would have neck enough to use that title in the UK, where she is now viewed as the worst kind of tragicomic trash.

I don't normally like cheap shots but if anyone has earned them, it would be Black or for instance his increasingly spiteful supporter, Lit 200. They both insult too many with low-blows (like CMB calling Kennedy "puffy" or Lit 200's "tranny" etc.). So I say, fire away.
Anyone who thinks Black is innocent at this point must be morally or mentally decrepit. It's in the public interest that this repeat offender be put away.
2013 February 25, 2008 at 3:07 p.m.
Does Lord North of Mudchute really think Amielticket will be waiting for him when he gets out some time in 2013? And does she really think he'll want a woman whose "extravagance knows no bounds" after five years of adjustment to the simple things in life and learning what true friendship is all about? She ought to cough up the money, because I suspect she knows where it's stashed, and try to do a deal with the Americans to have him released sooner, provide he admits his guilt and shuts up with all that victimization stuff already.

From a once ego boosting, if nothing else, job as Black's gofer / secretary to mindless and mind numbing days and nights glued to the internet posting all manner of drivel in praise of one's former lord and master, is a huge disgraceful downfall. At least you have something to occupy your time - posting tripe on the web and attacking anyone who dares to disagree with you. Start thinking for yourself, Ms. Maida alias lit200 - you might find that a boost to your morale.
Agree with Kelly February 25, 2008 at 3:16 p.m.
Yes, indeed, those two deserve every "cheap shot" in the book, for decades of nastiness in the media they controlled, when "ordinary people" couldn't buy a paper without finding some of Amiel's sickening columns. Before this excellent blog came alone, the likes of me had virtually no chance of answering back. Try sending in a "letter to the editor" to rectify some of Amiel's hateful drivel. It just ended up in the wastepaper basket, but now the boot is on the other foot. Even so, Lit 200's calling Roger a "tranny" and so on is not by any means the whole of it. What about the Finnish poster who seemed to have some inside line to camp Black and was soon denounced as a pedophile, his phone number posted and others invited to go round and sort him out? Then followed leaf's spurious crime report to the Finnish police and her insane phone calls in the middle of the night (eastern European time). Why do you think is behind all that? Time will tell, just as it told for Black.
Where is leaf? February 25, 2008 at 3:34 p.m.
No sign of leaf for a while. Maybe she only appeared online when you-know-who's Ritalin dosage was out of whack. Then she made a big mistake when she sneered at the RCMP as incompetents. They do get their man/girl/beast/whacko quite often, and leaf may already have heard the knock at the door. She admits herself to leaving dozens of messages on voicemail in the middle of the night. In what country again? Oh yes, Nokialand. That's about as clever as Black was when he stole from the rich in what country? Oh, yes, the United States of America. In a way you have to feel sorry for those losers, who think they are sooooo clever, but end up with their ass between a rock and a hard place. This week will be one of major instability for Amielticket. Watch out for some real fireworks.

It's called karma or commeuppance and your post is so correct. Just a few requests before I take up residence in Coleman FCI.
I need to have a largish bathtub so that I can continue to exercise my mental abilities by arranging model ships in the order of great naval battles such as Salamis, the Nile, Trafalgar, Jutland and Midway. About 2 x 2 metres would suffice, but preferably 3 x 4 metres.
My cell should be large enough to accommodate my shaving stand, which once belonged to the great Emperor Napoleon.
Then I shall need space for the 350 volumes that I have selected, one computer terminal and a small wine rack.
Trusting that you can accommodate me in these matters,
Yours

Agree with "Agree with Kelly"--with emendations:"Yes, indeed, those two [and Radler] deserve every "cheap shot" in the book, for decades of nastiness in the media they controlled, when "ordinary people" couldn't buy a paper without finding some of Amiel's sickening columns [and/or the take-over of the paper by Black and Radler's neo-con editorial stance, or one of Black's 'letters to the editor', or news of yet another libel suit by Black]. Before this excellent blog came alone, the likes of me had virtually no chance of answering back."
I disagree that there is nothing tragic about the downfall of Black and Amiel--in the 1970s, I thought they had potential; by the 80s and 90s they had become somewhat powerful, influential people (to my mind, misusing their potential); and now they have fallen, brought down by their own miscalculations and the nemesis of the US Justice system. (The pro-Blacks and the anti-Blacks disagree as to the nature and culpability of the miscalucations and as to whether the nemesis was substantially just or substantially unjust.)
So Radler, it seems, is going to a private prison in the US. If he were a man of principle--seeing he is right-wing and all--he would elect to spend out his prison term there rather than enter the public prison system of Canada.

Terribly bad news for the 3 felons. With the departure of Mr Susssmen, Mr Patric Fitzgeraldine has taken over the direct day to day work on the file of the 3 felons. Mr Fitzgeraldine is a batchelor and a work alcoholic, he has handle the case of 'Dapper Don'. Dapper has been sitting in jail for 10 years. Patric also handled Mr Libby's case.
Mr Libby was pardoned by Mr Cheney, after Mr Libby threatened to sing about Mr Cheney his boss. In hind-sight it is too bad that Mr Lord did not a boss, he could have exposed them. On second thought, Mr Lord did have a boss, that being the board and the audit committee. In a strange twist of fate, the Lord's boss --the board and tha audit committe-- exposed Mr Lord. I could not agree more, Kelly. Breeden has been unfairly and maliciously maligned by anyone who is in Black's camp and it is sickening to read.
It is absolutely incomprehensible that Black apparently continues to slander others and beyond belief that he continues to believe that this is ok for public consumption. If you wish to insult me by referring to me as a woman, well, God bless you and your twisted ideas. In fact, I am a feminist!
I believe the days of the machismo male, the so-called alpha male that Roger and his ilk seek to project, is over. If this is the best you can do, there is not much substance to the lot of you.

Incredible but true, the lord's defense team has allegedly filed yet another appeal. This appeal is an appeal about their last appeal, which voided the previous appeal that was denied. If any blogger does not understand this, don't worry coz this is because you are not sophisticated enough.
In other words you are like the jury, uneducated, blue-collar, unsophisticated females. A courier entered the bail-appeal judges chamber and handed each of them the latest defense team's appeal. This action woke up the benchers who were snoring so loud that one of the glass panel windows fell. The pretty trial judge was being interviewd by the CBC's Mr Petur Mansbridgeness --also known a dick head-- on the sidewalk when the huge glass piece fell on them and plastered them into a pancake. The canadian population was happy for having been freed from Mr Dick-head. Very beautiful CTV reporter Lisalotte LaFlare will be substituting dick-head, since Mr Lloyd is going to live forever as anchor Tutankamuun.

It is interesting that in their 47 page response to the request for continued bail, the prosecution referred to Conrad Black's effort as "Hurculean." It is, indeed. Hurcules was a hero in Greek mythology. And this story is not over.
Personally, I detest most of Conrad Black's philosophy. I have said this before.
But this trial is a travesty. And the hatred that pours out of 99 per cent of the posters on this blog is drivel. You are all losers. None of you can see through the veil of your preconceptions.
Welcome to your closed minds. To your closed worlds. You are of the mentality that leads to fascism.

I am a male. Married, children, grandchildren. It pleases posters here to refer to me as a female. I am not insulted but I am surprised and amused.
If you call me a women, does it insult me? I don't take it that way at all. But it reveals a lot more about you than it does about me.
I am quite pleased to be considered in my thinking and in my approach to philosophical questions, to be a female.
The day of the "male mind" the hedgemony, is over. Women will carry the world forward from this time forward. The male... as exemplified by Roger and his ilk... is over. They have had their shot and they have fuked it up.

More hysterics and bitterness from Lit 200 - guess it's to be expected now that her hero's incarceration draws closer.
But for determined, able prosecutors like Fitzgerald and Sussman, white collar criminals like Black would be free to steal another day and investor confidence in the capital markets would eventually erode.
Just for the record, I refer to Lit as a female because I believe she previously said as much and I couldn't be bothered to change that every time she decides it's expedient to switch gender. The suggestion that it's some sort of misogyny is laughable.

ALL INCOMING PRISONERS ARE THOROUGHLY EXAMINED TO ASCERTAIN THEIR HEALTH STATUS, SEX, and any signs of infectious diseases or contraband or weapons hidden on or in their person. So, they will check to make sure Black is indeed a male. They will check all his hiding places. When Lord Black tries to engage in chit chat, a drill sargeant like booming voice will scream, "Silence!" and Lord Black will jump with fright. In the realm of his reeling senses, transformed from Lord Black to plain old con Connie, Black will shuffle along naked in leg irons to his cell to the wolf whistles of his new family, cages rattling, the reception committee rousing in their salute to the much anticipated celebrity in their midst. Black will carry his bedding, uniform and pitiful possessions to his new accommodations. Then he will be introduced to his new comrades, no doubt carefully selected to ensure the Lord is kept busy, too busy to make complaints and demands on the precious time of wardens and guards and clerks, all of whom are now in superior positions to Black and every other inmate, except for the prison dons. Boarding school will look like Club Med by comparison. This might not be the end. No, it is merely the end of the beginning. Black will travel the long road to reinvent himself as a person. Black will now be in a world of men. Lit knows what that means.
ROGER February 25, 2008 at 10:47 p.m.
I WISH BLACK WELL!
If Black takes up the cause of prisoners in American jails with all the vigour that Lit200 and her colleagues are now investing in pointing out real and imagined flaws in the American justice system, he could redeem his wasted life.
Prison reform and prisoner rights is a neglected concept in America. While I am a supporter of punishing criminals, there seems a great inequity and injustice in the American system, which Black can spend the rest of his life exposing. Of course, to have any credibility, he would have to concentrate on the well-being of other people and completely surrender his egotistical self-centredness if he wishes to be taken seriously by anyone. If all he does is carp about his own predicament, all he will meet is scorn and contempt. How much more empathic one could be if Amiel were to devote herself to working with ebola patients, the poor and indigent. The best places to start for Amiel and Black are in the National Post and Macleans pages to say, "Sorry for everything!"

As I recall, I called W101 on his macho strutting--something about kicking me in the balls, was it?--and an macho anti-intellectual posture.
There have been a lot of anti-Black women posters here, and the only anti-Black poster whom the "feminist" Lit 200 respects is W101!!
An interesting question is why all the regular self-identified-as-female posters on this blog have been anti-Black (with the exception of leaf, who seems female but has never confirmed it), and the staunch pro-Black posters, fewer in number, who have idetified their sex, have all been male.
Anyone have any answers to this question?

Once we had it made, we could do no wrong, all we needed was a little bit of pecker, spring in our step, fawning babes at our feet, visible minorities (we didn't call them that back then) to be gofers, and we could goof up and goof off as much as we liked, 'cause we were white males, white males.
Damn suffragettes rebelled, freed slaves demanded end to Jim Crow, and the last good war was WW2, and it has been downhill since for us white males, white males.
Now we drop out of grade 8 and there is no lifetime job waiting for us on Archie Bunkers loading dock.
Now the girls want to know why we don't do our share of the housework. They don't understand, we once had it made because we were white males, white males.
I think I am going to be sick. Positively sick. I have to compete for jobs, compete for places in school. The girls are not fawning anymore over white boys, white boys.
Once all I had to be was a white boy and I had it made.

Black did nothing wrong, the shareholders were not "jobbed" by him (under Black's management they got fat dividend payments) but by a crook by the name of Richard Breeden, who gutted the company and is now fleecing other unsuspecting investors with his (two and twenty) hedge fund."
Free Conrad Black!
Breeden charged Hollinger $800us an hour to destroy the company, all aided and abetted by Paris and the anti-Black directors who put tens of millions in their pockets. And what about Tweedy Brown whose zillion shares were trading at $18 or so when his sidekick, Jurassic did her Nurse Ratchet routine. Now, Tweedy's shares are almost worthless.
Is Conrad to blame? Yep. A few years ago when it looked as if it would get ugly, I thought that Conrad should do whatever what was required to ameliorate the problem and concentrate on The Telegraph and saving England. I wonder will Lord North of Mudchute get another column published in the Nazional Post before he checks into the Crowbar Hotel? He has only six days left now in which to give us all the benefit of his wisdom and divert the world away from its present course towards perdition.
I keep looking at Mark Swine's columns to see if his fiery admiration of everything to do with his former mentor and patron has reignited. But not the faintest spark. It's almost a case of "Conrad who?", as the Swine concentrates on 101 ways to bash Muslims, scaremonger and bash Muslims again. He seems to think Muslims are outbreeding the rest of us. So why doesn't he give Mrs. Swine (or should that be Sow?) a good rogering more often and sire a dozen good clean white Aryan kids rather than whining?
Today he's moaning about something I never heard of before, "hymen replacement surgery". http://www.steynonline.com/content/view/... there's something for Amielticket to consider!

Both Swine and the Bride of Blackula have, naturally, considered things like Britain's National Health Service utter anathema. A total waste of money, and they eagerly point to examples of odd spending, such as hymen replacement surgery. This surgery costs nearly as much in a year as one of the £60,000 missiles the British Army regularly uses to destroy a Taliban command and control post - a £5 carpet, a £2 hookah and £1 worth of pots and pans.
Yet, the Bride of Blackula may change her mind once she examines her new realities and her options. She might be well advised to get out of the jurisdiction before the US authorities start looking too closely at her financial past.
A British citizen and old-age pensioner, she is entitled to all the benefits of the welfare state she opposed. Who knows, she might even meet an elderly, conservative and rich Arab - and then she has the option of asking the NHS for hymen replacement surgery. Well, a girl can at least ask!

Let's hope that Mark S. has taken to berating B. Amiel, C. Blatchford and A. Coulter for failing in their central duty as conservative, but non-Muslim, women: oh the sadness! to think of all the non-Muslim kids that trio never bore!
Of course when those ladies were in their child-bearing prime, Western conservatives' big enemy was the commies, who tended towards schemes of population control. But even then, most true-blue conservatives thought women should be (married) baby bearers. Amiel at least managed the married part.

Lit 200 wrote on the last thread--"Gothe was a pedophile". Really? You mean Goethe? Please elucidate....
Yes, I meant Goethe:
"Almost any time period or culture one picks, there are numerous incidents of sexual relationships between adults and prepubescent or pubescent youths. The German genius and poet, Johan Wolfgang von Goethe wrote:
I like boys a lot, but the girls are even nicer... If I tire of her as a girl, she'll play the boy for me as well (Goethe, 1884)."

"Eroticism
Many of Goethe's works, especially Faust, the Roman Elegies, and the Venetian Epigrams, depict hetero- and homosexual erotic passions and acts. In Faust, having signed (the Devil insists on his signature in an actual contract) his deal with the devil, the very first use of his new power thus gained sees Faust ravishing a young teenage girl. In fact, some of the Venetian Epigrams were held back from publication due to their sexual content. However, Karl Hugo Pruys caused national controversy in Germany when his 1999 book The Tiger's Tender Touch: The Erotic Life of Goethe tentatively deduced from Goethe's writings the possibility of Goethe's homosexuality.[15] The sexual portraitures and allusions in his work may stem from one of the many effects of Goethe's eye-opening sojourn in Italy, where men, who shunned the prevalence of women's venereal diseases and unconscionable conditions, embraced homosexuality as a solution that was not widely imitated outside of Italy.[16] Whatever the case, Goethe clearly saw sexuality in general as a topic that merited poetic and artistic depiction. This went against the thought of his time, when the very private nature of sexuality was rigorously normative, and makes him appear more modern than he is typically thought to be.[17]
[edit] Religion
Born into a Protestant (Lutheran) family, Goethe's early faith was shaken by news of such events as the 1755 Lisbon earthquake and the Seven Years' War. His later spiritual perspective evolved among pantheism, humanism, and various elements of Western esotericism, as seen most vividly in Part II of Faust.
A year before his death he expressed an identification with the Hypsistarians, an ancient Jewish-pagan sect of the Black Sea region. After describing his difficulties with mainstream religion, Goethe laments:
...I have found no confession of faith to which I could ally myself without reservation. Now in my old age, however, I have learned of a sect, the Hypsistarians, who, hemmed in between heathens, Jews and Christians, declared that they would treasure, admire, and honour the best, the most perfect that might come to their knowledge, and inasmuch as it must have a close connection to the Godhead, pay it reverence. A joyous light thus beamed at me suddenly out of a dark age, for I had the feeling that all my life I had been aspiring to qualify as a Hypsistarian. That, however, is no small task, for how does one, in the limitations of one's individuality, come to know what is most excellent?

ON THE NEW BLOG MR D. BELL HAS CREATED, ONE HAS TO SIGN IN. One wonders what impact that will have on those who choose to continue? No doubt, Lit will have multiple identies, like Leaf, Wave99, and genders, and sexual orientations, so she can have conversations with herself.
I do hope Lit does not intend reprinting the entire text of each book she reads. Lit will discover German literature is full of expressions that are shocking to the ears of English speakers. Even works by the Protestant Reformer Martin Luther are full of discussions of belching and other instances of passing wind too delicate to mention. I remember my shock hearing a conservative old woman say "toten hosen" and realized that German is just full of earthy expressions, such as this one, meaning dead trousers, nothing happening--there is a crudeness in the language that German speakers do not hear, because it is a part of literature and everyday speech. After 5 major bloodletting wars on German soil, sex, whether gay, hetero or even bestiality, is not of much concern to most Germans. Politics and war is. What Goethe had to say about boys and girls might shock Lit, but it is what had to say about politics, war and the state that is of greater concern to most Germans. Of course, sex is big business in Germany. Beate Uhse has built herself an empire and the live sex shows of Hamburg would make most N Americans blush. Of course Lit would not be allowed to walk through Herbertstrasse at night in the Reeperbahn! Lit will scream about reverse discrimination!
Lit 200 February 27, 2008 at 9:03 a.m.
Not uncharacteristically, St P misunderstands the situation completely; I am not shocked to learn about pedophilia among the literati. Why should they be exempt from any of the foibles that afflict other groups of people? Despite his towering talent, Dostoyevski was an obsessive gambler, Dickens frequented whores in Paris, Faulkner was a souse, Balzac, Byron, Shelley, Socrates... but why go on? My point was a completely different one that related, strangely enough in this blog, to the distinguished businessman and noted historian, Conrad Black. In the first instance I was accusing the anti-Black crowd of allowing their hatred of a man because of his philosophical bent to blind them to his accomplishments and attainments, which are considerable. My reference to Goethe was merely an example of an incandescently talented person with a low and disgusting proclivity.
In other words, stay with the program.

Seems to me that the legend of Faust might apply more to Conrad Black than you think:
“The most enduring and pervasive myth of the post-classical world is that of Faust, the tragical doctor who sold his soul to the Devil in return for power and knowledge.”
Lit 200 February 27, 2008 at 9:23 a.m.
And I will refer again to the infantile effort to make me out to be a woman. Whence, I wonder, does this come from. Kelly, herself a woman, is one of those who delight in this means of "insulting" me (I do not take it as an insult but obviously they who hurl the "accusation" do).
The only thing I can think of is that Kelly, despite her sex, believes women to be feckless creatures, beset by silly ideas, poor judgment and worthless intelligence. It must be so, else why refer to a man as a woman?
I can understand this attitude from Roger, who is from an Islamic background. This upbringing explains many things about the man: his braggadocio, his endless criticism of "western" tradition and constant reference to the superiority of nations ruled by non-secular, Islamic governments, not to mention the extremes of Sharia law, which I suspect he wants to see supplant the common law and the rights to individual freedoms in his adopted country of Canada.
Him I can understand and I expect no better. Women are inferior creatures in his tradition. And his opinions are sharply defined and absolute, black and white. When he hates Black because of his philosophy, for example, he can see no good in the man whatsoever, although everyone knows that noone is all evil or all good. This is the politics and the propaganda of hate, that has been used time and time again throughout history to deal with troublesome individuals and groups of individuals.
Lit 200 February 27, 2008 at 9:29 a.m.
... because the first step to eliminating such individuals and groups is to demonize them, make them despicable so that ordinary people have no remorse at crushing them and removing them. So with Black, so with the Albanians, so with the Jews, so with Native peoples...
Schopenhauer February 27, 2008 at 10:45 a.m.
Don't forget women!
Taken as a whole, women are, and remain, thorough-going Philistines, and quite incurable. Hence, with that absurd arrangement which allows them to share the rank and title of their husbands they are a constant stimulus to his ignoble ambitions. And, further, it is just because they are Philistines that modern society, where they take the lead and set the tone, is in such a bad way. Napoleon's saying--that women have no rank--should be adopted as the right standpoint in determining their position in society; and as regards their other qualities Chamfort[5] makes the very true remark: They are made to trade with our own weaknesses and our follies, but not with our reason. The sympathies that exist between them and men are skin-deep only, and do not touch the mind or the feelings or the character. They form the sexus sequior--the second sex, inferior in every respect to the first; their infirmities should be treated with consideration; but to show them great reverence is extremely ridiculous, and lowers us in their eyes.
Accordingly, it would be a very desirable thing if this Number-Two of the human race were in Europe also relegated to her natural place, and an end put to that lady nuisance, which not only moves all Asia to laughter, but would have been ridiculed by Greece and Rome as well. It is impossible to calculate the good effects which such a change would bring about in our social, civil and political arrangements. In Europe the lady, strictly so-called, is a being who should not exist at all; she should be either a housewife or a girl who hopes to become one; and she should be brought up, not to be arrogant, but to be thrifty and submissive. It is just because there are such people as ladies in Europe that the women of the lower classes, that is to say, the great majority of the sex, are much more unhappy than they are in the East. They ought to mind home--and be well fed and clothed--but not mixed in society. Well educated, too, in religion--but to read neither poetry nor politics-- nothing but books of piety and cookery.

Black will be forever remembered as a poor businessman and without distinction, save that of being a lowly felon who sought first to enrich himself to his own pocket book and sense of entitlement, as opposed to his fiduciary responsibilities to his shareholders and to the legacy of the company.
Noted historian? Hardly. Black's books are not wholly researched by himself for some new insight or discovery nor do they even present a fresh viewpoint.
You want to put him up there with Edmund Gibbon or someone who was truly remarkable just because the pompous idiot Black can recite the Prime Ministers of England backward?
What a bore!
And as for proclivities, Black's proclivities, since the time he was a school boy, were thievery and lying.
